Rooted In My Faith is about the church of my childhood but what I have found that many relate to many of these topics as Easter dresses, hymns of the heart, power of the pew, and of course church shoes with white ruffled turned down socks. My prayer is that my memories, prompt readers of Author’s Lounge to remember their roots. To remember that day at an old fashion alter where they made the decision to follow him, inviting him into their hearts.
The most important part of the whole book is the pages to follow that gifts readers the opportunity to share, journal their own memories. As I struggle with my own memory, I know the value of memories. I would pray that you, the reader of the Author’s Lounge, would stop to document your faith and pass it on for your future generations. Your Jesus is worth sharing, even if it saves one in the future. That one was worth the time to spend some time writing and sharing your blessing of faith.
Leaving a Legacy: Documenting Faith for Future Generations
Be More than a picture is my challenge to our generation and to the readers of Author’s Lounge. Leave a strong legacy of what’s most important to you, your faith. This is why I wrote Rooted in My Faith, The church of my childhood. As I struggle with my own memory health issue, journaling those precious memories will be a gift in the future. We can’t rely on our memories to withstand all of our years so why not document them. My heart’s desire is to be more than just a person in a picture, I want my future generations of family to know me and know my Jesus.
Passing Down the Greatest Gift: Your Faith in Jesus
We can leave all the collections, heirlooms, antiques, and trinkets we have to our kids and grandkids but only for them to sale it or give it away. Why not leave what is the best gift you ever received, Your Jesus. Be more than just someone in those family pictures that will look at them for generations to come. Your faith is worth passing down to hope encourage someone else’s faith in Jesus Christ. Be that person in that picture that everyone remembers as their strong faith in Jesus.
Childhood Roots: Nurtured by Faith in East Texas
Born and raised right here in East Texas, I was blessed to have parents that made going to church a priority. I grew up under the scriptures and going to church was a family affair. I had two pastor uncles and sitting on the pew with my cousins is a memory gift to my heart. My childhood roots made me the strong woman of faith I am today. Those roots carried me through some of the toughest growing up years of my life. For my roots in Jesus, I am thankful for he never left me even when I wasn’t perfect.
Evolving Church Dynamics: Nostalgia and Changing Traditions
Indeed, the church I knew as a child has changed. Hymns have been replaced with modern music. Hymnals are now screens. In some cases, the scripture is only read on the screen, and so many are not being taught to open the Bible and find the scriptures. The sound of the Bible pages turning is a sound so many will never hear. I share about the sound that you hear when those pages turn, and the congregation is finding the scripture the Pastor is going to speak about. It’s a chapter in my book.
First, we must encourage them to open their Bibles. If you teach them to find the scriptures, the answers to their questions, they will always know how to seek and find Jesus. Online tithing has been replaced the pass the plate decision. That moment of faithfulness that you let go of that dollar and simply trust in your God. Dinner on the grounds was always a favorite time as church families had time to visit and eat together. Lastly and one of the most important things to look back on is value of a Sunday, day of rest, gift.
Embracing Sunday: A Day for Rest and Renewal
Everything was pretty much closed on Sundays in my growing up years and it was a blessing. There were less temptations about going shopping or to the movies, all those things that keep us too busy now, because they were closed. Sundays were created as a day of rest. Why? Because our creator knew we would need it. I encourage readers to take that day of rest seriously. Make it a priority and renew your bodies with rest so you’re ready to face the other six days. Sundays, a day of rest is vitally important to restoring our souls so we can face the week ahead.
