Earth’s Angels

To be or not to be an author. Is that even a question?

Did all authors have childhood aspirations of becoming authors? No, they did not. At the Authors Lounge, you will hear many stories about why people became authors.

Some authors find surprising inspiration to write, while others have life experiences or passions they want to share. And some authors—like myself—become storytellers because of a dream.

I had been writing poetry since childhood and songwriting since 2007, when I had a vivid dream that I couldn’t stop thinking about, which was usual, as I am one of those people who sleeps like the dead. Lol.

I thought at the time that my vivid dream would make a great movie like Avatar. Two and half years later, the dream still popped in my thoughts on a daily basis, so I decided to write it down and my first sci-fi fantasy novel, Earth’s Angels, was created. Within three years I had created and published The Earth’s Angels trilogy, in adult and young adult editions. The amount I learned about writing, editing, self-publishing, and marketing was mind-blowing.

The Earth’s Angels Trilogy is a true science fiction-fantasy adventure. It is a post-apocalyptic alien invasion story about badass humans, ancient aliens, and a fight for our future. So when I was inspired to write a spicy romantic comedy, I did ask myself, should I?

One of the benefits of being an indie author is that I don’t have anyone telling me what I can or can’t do. I decided I wanted to be a multi-genre author and wouldn’t let myself be pigeonholed. After all, close friends and family thought I was crazy for publishing my sci-fi fantasy Trilogy in two different editions for adults and kids, but that has worked out extremely well.

I published Calling Clarissa last year, and it has been amazing. So many of my sci-fi fantasy readers have read it and loved it, demanding more. It’s available on Kindle Unlimited and is receiving outstanding reviews. So, if you like a hilarious British Rom-Com, you may want to get it for yourself and your friends. There is nothing better than having a giggle with friends.

One of the things I did this year was to make book one of my Earth’s Angels Trilogy permanently free on all my selling platforms.

As an Indie author with zero marketing budget, I had to do something to attract new readers. Don’t get me wrong, I advertise every day on social media, and if I sell enough books in previous months, I use those funds for advertising. However, I needed to give new readers incentive to try my first book at no expense. Who doesn’t love a free book with so many great reviews.

My gamble is paying off. I have gained an increase in sales, reviews, and followers. Readers who aren’t generally into sci-fi fantasy, post-apocalptic/alien invasion, or first-contact books are trying Earth’s Angels and not only enjoying it but are also buying the rest of my trilogy. They are discovering a whole new genre that they never considered reading, which makes my heart and soul happy.

One of my goals in publishing the Earth’s Angels Trilogy in adult and YA editions was to encourage adults and their children to keep reading together, especially as this important activity usually stops when children reach their teens. Not only have I achieved this, but I have also given adults a choice between having a spicy sci-fi fantasy story or a clean alternative without the naughty bits and adult language.

I am living proof that you are never too old to start a new career in publishing, and one of the true benefits of being an indie author is that you can carve your own literary path.
