The essence of life is struggle, and it’s not far from the truth. Life is filled with countless troubles testing people’s limits. But throughout, one thing is sure: persistence is key.
“Never give up” is a quote easier said than done. It rolls out of people’s mouths whenever they or anyone they know encounters troubles in life. Yet, nobody knows precisely how to act on it.
To continue pushing despite the many challenges is a trait born out of heroes and heroines. They do it to achieve their goals, commonly to save humanity. But does this mean it might as well be entirely fictional?
Although people can be resilient, it’s not easy to picture them repeatedly pushing, especially when they’re close to losing or at their limits. People can be persistent, but they can also be easily defeated. Setbacks can quite literally and quickly set them back to a zero state where they question their capabilities and the future that awaits.
Regarding life’s successes, one critical trait that people must embody is persistence.
Understanding the Trait
When people say persistence is key, everyone means it plays an integral role in maintaining one’s will in life. It’s key to anything people desire and wish to attain, regardless of what holds them back. Persistence is measured in people’s grit and determination to continue pushing through life’s toughest obstacles and setbacks.
People can be resilient due to their survival instincts.
But they aren’t persistent.
This means that while everybody can get back up when they’re knocked off by life, not everybody can continue doing so after multiple failures. Persistence helps people keep going regardless of how many times they continuously fail and regress back to the start. They feel no hardship or hopelessness in their situations, knowing somewhere along the way they will climb back up and succeed.
Persistence is key in a society where change is ever-present, and people can fail despite having the competence to succeed. People can’t significantly progress if the moment they fail, they immediately give up.
Persistence is what lays the concrete foundation for success. But how does one never back out even when, in life, it feels like all odds are against them?
Persistence Is Key, but It Also Is a Habit
In The Demanding River by Cheryl J Corriveau, readers are better shown what persistence is. With a message of “never give up,” the book tells the story of a girl who overcomes every conflict and trouble life throws at her. It highlights her resolute and unswerving determination to be the best in the industry she had dabbled in, even when things don’t always go her way.
While it’s in the character’s will to never give up, it hasn’t always been easy.
There were moments when life knocked her down, but she steadily stood back up. Yet, there were also moments when she was close to giving up.
Persistence is key, but unfortunately, people have to encounter countless challenges to strengthen and sharpen this character. Nobody wakes up one day determined to never let life beat them down. Instead, they would have to understand and truly believe that there will always be a rainbow at the end of their tunnel. Persistence is integral, but developing it is never easy.
What does one have to do?
The secret to becoming more persistent is changing perspectives. The world becomes what it is depending on how people perceive it. Their minds put consequential meaning behind everything. However, it’s behind the way everyone experiences life. Hence, when it comes to practicing the belief that persistence is key, people must learn to believe they’re in for success.
What weighs people down to defeat is the weight of their losses and setbacks.
But it’s also them that puts the amount of weight on these.
If they wish to persist regardless of what life throws them or the setbacks they experience, they must turn their perception around. They must believe these aren’t burdens on their shoulders but blocks that allow them to step up closer to their success. These aren’t measures of their inadequacy but are proof that everyone has put in effort to be in the direction of their goals.
These failures don’t exist to make people feel disappointed.
Instead, they exist so people can figure out how to improve.
