Touch of Faete: A Contemporary Fantasy Adventure

A story about pirates, fae, and humans, oh my!

Enter a world where modern cities coexist with fantastical realms, and an extraordinary quest unfolds: Touch of Faete, book 1 in the Bradaís Pledge Trilogy.

Gifted with useless visions she never asked for, a young human seer is thrown into the middle of the fae struggle against their enemies: the bradaís. In between modern cities and faraway fae lands, Ryanne acts like a bridge to find the humanity in the one bradaí her heart should push away.

Ryanne and Bricius woke me up at 6 a.m. one day a few years back.

They wouldn’t let me go back to sleep, even if it was a Sunday, until I agreed to write them, so I did. I was so excited about their introduction that I could hardly wait to wake up my daughter and read it to her. Then I pictured Titus walking inside a coffee shop, and from there I didn’t stop until I finished it all. The Dresden Files also inspired me. Jim Butcher is my absolute number one contemporary author, but I wanted to make it lighter and more romance-y. Imagine Jane Austen attempting to write in Butcher style!

There are pirates and fae in the book… How does that work?

Actually they’re not really pirates, but immortal creatures disguised as such to avoid being detected by the fae back in the 1600s when they first appeared. Bradaís—the name of this immortal race—are the fae’s unnatural enemy, created solely for the purpose of destroying fae. Fae don’t have natural predators, so the combination is a killer. Literally. But worry not! Fae are fighters and not easy to kill, especially when met face to face. Throw a human into the mix and see how sparks fly.

Touch of Faete marks the beginning of a trilogy.

As the story unfolds, readers can expect to delve deeper into the enchanting world and witness the characters’ growth and evolution. The adventure will continue in the next books: thrilling challenges, and heartwarming moments. There is a twisted Peter Pan feeling to this story, where “Wendy” falls for “Hook” and “Peter” is her fae mentor. He’s named Peter since the heroine thought he was the real Peter Pan when they met. Don’t judge her—she was only eight at that time.

Touch of Faete caters to a diverse audience of fantasy enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and those with an appreciation for contemporary settings intertwined with magical elements. Young adult and adult readers who enjoy immersive storytelling, dynamic characters, and an exciting blend of fantasy and romance will find Touch of Faete particularly appealing.
