How far Would you go to Escape Mundanity, and What Would you Risk for Eternity with your Beloved? Lilah Neumann has longed for something beyond the mundane for as long as she can remember. A chance meeting with a mysterious and sexy vampire turns her dreams into a reality filled with adventure and excitement. She has no plans to return to her previous dull life.
After spending 400 years as a lone mercenary, Cain finds more than a companion in 19-year-old Lilah. Yet he can’t shake his past and struggles to suppress his feelings to protect her from the dangers and temptations his kind offers.
When Cain abandons her to keep her safe, Lilah finds herself on a journey through Europe to overcome her human limits and fight for a place by his side. But can a human survive in a vampire’s world?
The Waxing Moon is an award-winning paranormal romance that takes the reader on an unforgettable trip.
What inspired you to write the book?
I’ve had this story in my head ever since I was a teenager. Back then, I stumbled upon a vampire story called “A vampire’s prisoner” by RebelGoddess13 on quizilla (a fan fiction website). It awakened my obsession with paranormal romance and inspired me to make up my own tales.
Years later, the story still lingered in the back of my mind. In the meantime, a former classmate had published a book, and her example motivated me to do the same.
But I wasn’t sure how or where to start. The COVID-19 lockdown eventually gave me the time to learn the steps needed to write my story down.
I also love travelling, so I used many of the countries and cities I’ve visited as inspiration as well. You get to see glimpses of Rome, Hamburg, London, Paris, a Greek island, Salzburg, and many more breathtaking places in my book.
What is your target audience for the book?
The Waxing Moon is perfect for young woman who dream of escaping their daily lives, travelling through Europe, and falling in love with a vampire.
It’s a rather fast-paced read with some spice and a strong female lead.
Readers should be okay with triggers such as kidnapping, torture, and death (although those scenes are not very graphic).
What are your future goals/plans for the book?
Lilah’s and Cain’s journey is done, but we’ll see them again in my next book (as side characters).
The epilogue in The Waxing Moon already hints at the new main character, but I’m keeping the details a secret for now.
But I’m writing my books in English since it’s more fun and I just love the language. I already spent several months travelling through Canada and the US in 2016, and I’m hoping to return there for a sabbatical next year.
Since English is not my native tongue, it was important to me to publish my book traditionally. I’m extremely happy that my book got picked up by The Wild Rose Press, a small American publishing company.
Apart from being a writer, I’m a trained mathematician, working as a Business Intelligence Developer at an IT company. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, travelling, and playing all kinds of games.
I also do tai chi. Some movements and weapon techniques I’ve learned help me write fighting scenes. So far, I can use a saber and a staff, which is why Lilah mostly fights with a staff, and the main character of my second book uses a saber.
