The Untangling by Suzie de Jonge

They say there is no stronger bond than the one mothers and daughters share. But for Suzie de Jonge, a close relationship with her mother never came easy. In the wake of her mother’s death, Suzie brings to light tender memories that had been gnawing at her for too long, and reflects on the burdens, challenges and gifts she was imparted over the years.

From this powerful place of vulnerability and surrender, Suzie finds her way through past hurts and comes back to love, experiencing life-changing realisations and understandings along the way.

In Part II, people in Suzie’s circle have opened their hearts and shared their own absorbing recollections of experiences with their parents.

The Untangling is a precious reminder of the possibilities that lie on the other side of judgement, blame, emotional baggage and limiting beliefs. It will support you to bravely rediscover yourself and your freedom, and step forth into a new chapter of life with a sense of simplicity, clarity and peace.

We all deserve our own Untangling …

Behind the Story

This was a book that never knew it was going to be written. My writing of The Untangling began as a cathartic outlet for me to express and unload my feelings and emotions that I was experiencing during the illness and then following the passing of my mother in regard to our relationship. It was always just meant to be for me, a way to purge and make sense of what I was feeling. As the writing progressed, it was reflected back at me by my dear mentor, that there was something in my writing that needed to be shared with others who might have had a challenging or dysfunctional relationship with a parent or caregiver, and are still carrying the weight of that through their lives. As I came to the conclusion of my personal story, I realised that there were so many other people out there who had powerful stories to share, especially people that had been able to reflect, process and understand how these relationships had impacted them and through that understanding be able to heal. We are all different, but we are all alike in so many ways. I know that there will be someone who reads this book that identifies with either my own or the other stories and think to themselves, ‘That could be me!’, and with that realisation, the understanding that there is the ability for them to heal too.

I see The Untangling as a movement that can spread throughout the world. The healing of generational patterns, rippling out to our loved ones, our children and their children.

I have also created The Untangling podcast and interview ordinary people with extraordinary lives, who share their wisdom and understandings of their own stories with me.

Thank you to the Author’s Lounge for this wonderful opportunity to share!
