The Tale of the Young Witch

Hello, my name is Davon Custis (Pen name: Joseph Minart), author of “The Tale of the Young Witch.” I am presenting this writing as part of the “Author’s Lounge.”

About the book:

Here is what I think about my latest book, “The Tale of the Young Witch.” Imagine a world where witchcraft and magic had once existed in the old days, causing so much mayhem and terror that most of society did not want any witchcraft anymore. The world moved on, mostly going with scientific advances. The last days of magic have ended and are now forgotten in today’s world. About 450 years later, now in 1901, a teenage girl named Amelia Twigg finds out she is a witch. Witchcraft still exists somehow, even though it shouldn’t be as so. She gets caught up in a dangerous struggle where a few others, who are also somehow like her, think that she’s the key to unlocking the lost ways of witchcraft once again.

“The Tale of the Young Witch” caters to all readers who can have their imagination go into overdrive. I want my book to be believable to the readers, to make them feel as if they are standing there with the various characters. Hopefully, my readers can see fantastic scenery and different landscapes, behold great magic through action scenes and the magic of writing, and witness other unexpected plot surprises. I want to excite the readers’ imaginative minds.

My only hope for my readers is to entertain on every chapter and page until the end. My latest book can be a source of inspiration on some level. As a writer, something unique should be written on each page of every chapter. One should never be bored with reading, no matter where they are reading during a story.

Some of my goals are to meet other authors and read their books. Hopefully, the other authors will like reading my book. I am always trying to learn about new things.

Facts about the author:

Even today, I am honing my skills to become a better writer. When I was growing up during childhood, the subject of English was my weakest area during school. Looking back, I only foresaw myself writing at most ten pages, usually for a high school or college course. Back then, I struggled with English, which drove me to improve my writing in general.

Out of college, my writing has drastically improved. It took me 6-7 years to write this book. I knew I had to meet various editors, all of whom I liked to improve my writing, to chop my writing down to around 188,000 words. “The Tale of the Young Witch” is my second book, but it’s my first book in fantasy. My other first book is still unedited (science fiction) and has a different writing style that no longer serves me. I signed a written contract to submit a traditionally published short story (science-fiction, edited) with a small publishing house.

I am a simple man who loves thinking about complex ideas. Other people like having “all the bells and whistles” when they are given the option to choose various things. Not me. Instead, I build up my character as a person to improve myself.

I like hanging out with family and friends, writing, reading, watching Japanese anime, watching Hollywood movies, and falling in love when hearing about new ideas. Playing video games is another source of entertainment. I enjoy connecting with those who may not know me, but within 5 minutes, we both have a better sense of learning more about each other during conversation. Others view me as an easygoing person who doesn’t mind taking on new adventures. I am open to trying out new things in my life.
