Take It From A Teenager by Scott Bradbrook

It’s amazing how many lifetimes pass you by as you get older. You remember what it was like being a kid and coming home to watch cartoons on a television that still had a box behind the screen. You remember your first teenage birthday and the joy of being closer to being an adult. It all seemed so simple back then. Then, as it usually does, life happened.

A short lifetime ago for me, I published my first book Take It From A Teenager at the beginning of 2020. Filled with 20 different ways to change your life for the better, this book includes chapters on positive self-talk, time management, the importance of respect, hitting rock bottom and many more topics. Although these life lessons come from the perspective of a teenager, specifically 15-year-old Scott Bradbrook, my book can be read by anyone of any age. It’s often a misconception who can read this book, because what would a teenager know that an adult doesn’t? But I believe every voice has something important to say, no matter who you are or where you are from.

This book began as a vague thought about life, that I needed to make a difference in some way. Growing up around lots of positive mental attitude books gave me a bit of an old soul, and as a result, I knew that I wanted to break the stereotype that all teenagers are the same. Now that I think back, it was more than not being the same as everyone else for me. It was about saying that I was here. I exist. I am unique. Too often we are treated as expendable, especially when we hold no major influence in today’s world. As a high school student, I was often seen only as a number or a letter, whether this was a student identifier code or a grade. Then as I moved into further education and adulthood, that number changed. I hope that my book encourages people to break from this ideology, that it helps them live as themselves, regardless if that fits in with what society promotes as perfect or not. We are more than just numbers and letters on a page or swirling around the internet. We are humans. We aren’t perfect. And we all have something to say.

For this reason, I really value what Author’s Lounge is doing. By promoting authors and helping them find relevant audiences, the world takes a small step closer to being a better place. I look forward to connecting with more people who not only enjoy reading my book, but also those who are starting the journey of becoming an author themselves. It’s still settling in that I’ve actually got a published book out, but I’m slowly starting to own the fact that I am indeed an author. And although my writing style has changed and evolved since my first book, I am still very proud of it and the effort I put into publishing it.

In terms of my future goals and plans for Take It From A Teenager, I hope that more people go out and read it. Whether this is via physical copy or eBook, I hope it reaches those who need it most, who need a little bit of encouragement in their day and are looking to change the rest of their lives into the best of their lives.

Although my first book was an amazing adventure, I am super excited to be starting my next writing adventure with my second book, The Book of Little Loves. As an anthology of short stories, my second book will focus on the forms of love we don’t often acknowledge. The love of strangers, the love of listening to the rain, the love of coming home and flopping onto your bed. After what the world has been through in recent years, we could all use a little love in our lives, and I cannot wait for you to read my second book soon!
