Thank you for the opportunity to discuss my book. Sandy Black And The Seven Giants can be explained like this. Just before her mother passes away, Sandy is told the truth about her father, a man she has never known. The shocking news will reveal an extraordinary new world to Sandy. One filled with high adventure, fantastical realms, and creatures beyond her wildest dreams. But dangers are lurking in the shadows. They await a ‘great menace’ which mysteriously coincides with Sandy’s arrival. With the unspeakable threat approaching, Sandy must learn to trust seven new and amazing friends, the father who abandoned her, and her own destiny as the war for their world’s survival races towards them!
Lose yourself, like never before, in the world of Sandy Black and the Seven Giants! Experience the bonds of new friendships, the intensity of battle, and the unbreakable love of family!
From the first page, be transported as you follow Sandy into adventure and the unknown. Why settle for the safe, mundane reality that consumes our everyday lives? Dive in and be reminded through Sandy that we are all called to greatness, but first comes the journey. The only question is…are you brave enough? I always explain the story in this fashion. It is Snow White and The Seven Dwarves made black, in the world from Chronicles of Narnia, with the problems from Lord Of The Rings. In other words, it is a retake of a story you have heard in an alive world. So the animals talk, and the trees speak as well. With the problems of Lord Of The Rings, meaning the issues are severe and threatening to everyone.
The inspiration for the book came from a conversation I had with my mother about the lack of fairytales made for the African American population. We noticed no fairytales represented our world’s diversity, which led me to create Sandy Black and The Seven Giants. It’s pretty much a remix of Snow White And The Seven Dwarves. I started writing on Christmas day in 2009. I finished in February 2011. So from then until I was able to publish the book at the end of 2022, it has been a journey.
My target audience for the book is everyone, despite being categorized as Young Adult fiction. I have had readers as young as seven and adults in their 70s who have enjoyed the story. I hope readers are transported to the world of Moria and can see the land’s beauty and people. I also hope readers can escape from their everyday lives and experience the adventure alongside Sandy.
I hope readers take away a sense of wonder and imagination from my book. I want them to feel inspired to create stories and explore their creativity. I also hope that readers gain an appreciation for diversity and representation in literature. Finally, I want you to have an experience while you read the book and envision the story that’s so vivid and real it’s like watching a movie.
In terms of future goals for the book, I plan to write three more books for the Sandy Black series. I want to expand on the history of the world I have created and introduce readers to new characters and creatures. Ultimately, I want to create a series enjoyed by readers of all ages and backgrounds. I have outlines for all three of the following books; all I need is time to get writing. I expect the problems and story to only get bigger moving forward.
In terms of something about myself, I have always been passionate about storytelling. Whether through writing or filmmaking, I have always loved creating something from scratch and sharing it with others. In addition, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, and working out when I am not writing. I thank you for the opportunity to share Sandy Black with you and all who see this interview. I hope all of you run to order the book as soon as possible.
