The Adventures of Steven and Rex

The Adventures of Steven and Rex

What is your book all about?

My book is a short story about a boy named Steven who runs away from his home so that he does not help his mother with chores around the house. Using his rocket, he takes his dog Rex with him to go to another planet where they hide from Mother. Eventually they encounter unfriendly creatures and need to escape for their safety.

What inspired you to write the book?

Publishing a book has always been a personal goal so it’s something that has been on my mind. My inspiration for this series comes from my dog Bennie. Having a dog has pushed me to be outdoors more by going for walks in my neighborhood and to enjoy nature. Our walks are usually uneventful, so I thought about writing a story with an exciting adventure.

I decided to have Steven and Rex go to another planet because I have always been interested in space. As a child I learned about space in school and became fascinated with the idea that there were other planets and galaxies. It was disappointing to realize that space travel is limited and, in many circumstances, impossible. However, we are living in an exciting time for space travel with renewed interest. There are plans to go back to the moon and ultimately land on Mars. This would be an incredible achievement for humanity. I hope that one day I will be able to experience space travel.

I also believe that books should take readers to other worlds and open people’s minds to new possibilities.

What is your target audience for the book?

My target audience are children, anyone interested in fiction, and those looking to improve their English language skills. It should specifically appeal to someone interested in science fiction and space travel.

What do you hope readers could get out from your book?

Above all, I hope that readers enjoy reading my book. Something they could get out of it would be that responsibility is important. Reflecting on my childhood, I wish that I had helped my parents more around the house. Another point would be that exploring can be fun but comes with precautions. I have travelled to many places and enjoyed visiting new countries. Travel is something that I recommend because people should experience life outside their neighborhood. However, it is important to be careful and aware of your surroundings. I hope it inspires children to explore their imagination so that they can develop their cognitive abilities and to encourage interest in reading.

What are your future goals/plans for the book? And something more about yourself.

In the short term I am hoping to continue The Adventures of Steven and Rex series. Currently I am writing the follow up which is going to be much longer. As a new author I hope to grow my audience and to always improve. It would be nice to be able to become a full-time writer but for now it is a side project. I have many other ideas which I hope to be able to use in future stories for Steven and Rex. A long-term goal I have is to write a script for a movie or TV series. Aside from writing stories for Steven and Rex I keep a dream diary and write reflections on contemporary political issues. This helps me to practice my writing and think outside the children’s fiction genre. I enjoy going to the gym, watching movies, and playing basketball in my free time. I have a bachelor’s degree in history and politics. Bennie is a white Maltese dog, but I also have another younger dog. His name is Dominic, and he is a white Morkie with brown spots and smaller than Bennie.
