Hello everyone, I’m Maggie Brown a new indie author. I would like to start of by saying a massive thank you to Author’s Lounge for asking me to come and talk about my latest book Of Magic & Lies.

So I released Of Magic & Lies a paranormal fantasy romance novel in March 2023. If you like books about Fae, Vampires, Witches, magic, battles and soul mates then this book is for you. This book follows three character perspectives; Alysium who is being hidden on earth, she has no idea about who she really is and we spend this book finding out alongside her. Then we have the dreamy and mysterious Lysais who Alysium is unexplicably drawn too, who seems to be two very different people at times. And then finally we have Alysium’s Loyal protector Jacin who has to lie to his best friend in order to protect her. With a whole host of other characters that I hope my readers love just as much. Of Magic & Lies has a slow burn romance, that my readers are going mental for so far. OMAL is the first book in my Gatemaker series.

The target audience for Of Magic & Lies is 18+ because it features sex, violence and swearing. These themes are more appropriate for a mature audience.

I think that the inspiration for my book came from all the different books I’ve read (and I’ve read alot,) shows I’ve watched and of course my over active imagination. I kept dreaming about these fantastical places and then Alysium and Lysais popped into my head. One day I began writing about these two characters and created the first book in my Gatemaker Series. I am currently writing book 2 and enjoying seeing where these characters are taking me. I look forward to having the whole series completed to see what happens to all the characters in this world.

What do I hope to achieve with my books? Hmmm that would have to be Escapism…If my books can help just one person escape their own reality, just for a moment then I feel that my job as an author has been successful.

What are my furture plans for Of Magic & Lies? The answer to that is to complete the next four books that I have planned in the Gatemaker Series over the next 2 years. The second book in this series is due to be released this year. I am also writing the first book in an interconected trilogy, which focuses upon f/f vampire, witch romance. These books will happen in the same universe with the characters crossing over into The Gatemaker series but should also be able to be read as a standalone series. I have many plans for more such interconnected series that will follow different characters.

A little about me, alongside being an author I’m also an avid reader demolishing books any time I can fit them in. A freelance editor, for Open Eye Editing, who are dedicated to helping indie authors. I’m the mother to a very cheeky little boy, who keeps me on my toes.
