What is your book all about?
‘Morocco or bust August ‘69’ is an award winning true story about six friends and myself, who back in 1968, came to the conclusion that we’d had enough of the miserable, British summer weather.
So, after a lively debate, while seated around a beer-stained table in a smoke-filled bar, the seven of us decided to embark on a holiday of a life-time the following year. So, on the 1st August 1969, the seven of us set off on holiday in a clapped-out-van to Morocco …
What inspired you to write the book?
The inspiration for me writing the book was because one of the seven, had written down most of what had happened to us during the trip. And with the help of the others, I wrote – Morocco or bust August ’69. To make it more authentic, one of the seven still had the photographs he’d taken. A few of them have been added in the book. The book was published in 2019 – 50 years since the holiday.
What is your target audience for the book?
It would probably be the ones who were growing up in the ‘Swinging Sixties’. Back then we had no satnavs to help us drive safely through France and Spain, only a fold out paper map that resembled a blanket once it was opened up, and then taking three hours to put it back together again. Also, inspiration for others to follow in our footsteps.
What do you hope readers could get out from your book?
Friendship; watching each other’s back, and several frightening situations, which we endured. You’ll only understand what I mean after you’ve read the book. If we can do it, back in 1969, especially with the technology we now have at our fingertips, I would recommend anyone giving it a go.
What are your future goals/plans for the book? And something more about yourself.
My future goals is to write more books. In fact, I wrote the follow up – Five Old ‘Gits’ and a Motorhome, which is part fiction, and part fact. My plans for the Morocco book is for me to promote it each summer, as it’s what you would call a ‘feel good read’, while you relax on the beach, or chilling out by the side of the pool.
***
I’m 75 years young, and I live with my wife, June of 53 years, in a small village, close to New Brighton, which overlooks Liverpool across the River Mersey.
I am currently writing my tenth children’s book under my pen name – Daniel M Warloch (an anagram of my name).
I’ve often been asked; what advice would I give to someone who wants to write a book. All I can say, is that if I can write a book, anyone can. I left school at 15 without any qualifications.
Praise for Michael Rowland/Daniel M Warloch …
“This author has a unique way of stringing words together, formulating ideas, and relating scenes to the reader.
In any piece of writing, the voice should be consistent and identifiable, which the author has done an excellent job, which sets this author apart from all other writers.”
