What is your book all about?A cunning and sadistic serial killer known as Minotaur has murdered and mutilated twelve women. When novelist David Knight returns home from his latest book tour, he is devastated to find that his wife is the latest victim. But why has Minotaur taken David’s young son? And what is the significance of the maze drawn in blood at every crime scene?
David’s world is in ruins. The police have failed him, and time is running out. If he has any hope of saving his son, he must enter the killer’s labyrinth. But can he do the unthinkable and submit to the darkness within himself?
What inspired you to write the book?
The Silence of the Lambs, and Seven are two of my favorite films. I’m also a big fan of the late Mo Hayder, who wrote a series of fantastic psychological thrillers. It was enjoying these stories, and being utterly terrified by them, that motivated me to write Minotaur. The aim was to create a psychopath who is more than just a one-dimensional villain. I wanted to set him on a collision course with an ordinary guy; someone who isn’t trained in martial arts, or is ex-military, but will do whatever it takes to save his son.
What is your target audience for the book?
Anyone who likes violent and disturbing thrillers, that go to dark places, and have lots of twists, should enjoy Minotaur.
What do you hope readers could get out from your book?
I want readers to be hooked from the first page – or better still, the first line. I want them to become immersed in the story, for it to come alive in their mind, and not want to put it down. I also want readers to be shocked by the plot’s darker elements but to enjoy having the rug pulled from under their feet along the way. The reviews so far suggest the story is ticking those boxes.
What are your future goals/plans for the book?
Minotaur is now available as an audio book, so that’s exciting. My background is scriptwriting, so if the film rights are acquired, it would be great to have an opportunity to develop the screenplay. I also have an idea for a sequel that would be darker and even more disturbing.
I’m currently writing another book that’s about as different from Minotaur as you can get. It’s a murder mystery featuring a quirky detective that is much lighter in tone.
And something more about yourself. When I’m not behind a keyboard, I enjoy running, live comedy, making short films, and going to the cinema. I live in the UK with my wife and two children.
