Ife and the Reading Rockets

Book 2: Ife’s Reading Adventures and Personal Growth

Book 2: Ife and the Reading Rockets is about Ife and her friends reading out loud at school! From conquering her own fears of reading, learning to be a good friend to others, and also learning to be patient with and good to herself. Ife once again is on an out of this world journey of life accompanied by her family and friends.

Target Audience Age Range and Grade Level

The target audience for this book is children who are between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. This age range corresponds to children who are typically in 2nd through 5th grades. The content and themes of the book are specifically designed to engage, resonate with young readers within this developmental stage. Offering age-appropriate language, relatable experiences, and intriguing storylines that cater to their interests and reading abilities.

Learning Self-Love and Compassion Through Everyday Scenarios

I hope that readers of my book come away with a deeper understanding. Appreciation of both themselves and those around them. My goal is for children to learn valuable lessons about self-love and compassion through the various scenarios and experiences that are presented in the book.

By exploring situations that children aged 8 to 12 commonly encounter at home and at school, I aim to help them navigate these challenges with kindness and empathy. Through the characters and their journeys, I hope to inspire young readers to embrace their own unique qualities and develop a genuine love and respect for others, fostering positive relationships and emotional growth.

Engagement and Advocacy Goals

I would love to do school visits, panel discussions, talks about the book. Be a national advocate for the importance of literacy and positive self-esteem for children. My biggest hope is that children read the book and love it!

Passion for Writing and Community Engagement

I love children of all ages and I am eager to understand the beauty of all cultures. Love writing stories that make people laugh, think, and learn how to be good to themselves and to others.

A certified nerd, I am a proud alumnus of Ben Davis High School (2008), DePauw University (BA in Biochemistry with minor in English Literature 2012), Butler University (Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences 2014), and Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (medical degree received in 2020). It was my time as an AmeriCorps volunteer in 2013-2014 and more recently in 2022-2023 that jumpstarted my desire to use my voice, time, education, and talents to give back to my community.

Balancing Pediatric Care, Advocacy, and Personal Interests

When I’m not on the inpatient unit or outpatient clinics caring for the pediatric patients whom I love, I am learning more about and advocating for pediatric health as an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

I credit my Christian faith and the support from my family and friends for how I have accomplished so much. I’m just getting started! I am an avid reader so my guilty pleasure/secret talent is reading children’s books and biography novels while simultaneously navigating a shopping cart in supermarkets without hitting anybody or anything (I hope 😊)!

Advocacy Writing and Public Engagement

In addition to my children’s books, I also use my pen to write up OpEd pieces to advocate for awareness and support for medically underserved communities. I have published articles in The DO magazine, MD Advisor magazine, JSNMA journal and The Pulse COSGP monthly newsletter. Her most recent publications have been in the AAP Voices Blog July 2023, the AAP COSH Newsletter in March 2024.

I also do in-person and virtual public speaking events, author visits, book signings, and panel discussions. Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] and grab a copy of the book available on amazon.
