The Heart of the Human Problem is the Problem of the Human Heart. Adrian Rogers.
This is Denise James coming at you from the Author’s Lounge. I’ve been a psychotherapist for 39 years. I’ve a huge belief in the transformative power of creativity and learning & growing through the sharing of experiences: Experience teaches. I am passionate about addressing in my work and writing all matters concerning the problem of the human heart: what hinders the heart from working at its best and expressing its true essence.
Empowering Healing Through Accessible Resources
Throughout my life, I have enjoyed access to affordable, high-quality psychotherapy. I have written my books for people -like myself -who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and cannot afford and/or find good quality therapy. However, my books are for anyone who has a love for humanity and would truly like to make a real difference in the world. Especially at this corner-turning time in world history. Inner Life Writes is for all humans wanting to be the best that they can be. So the world can be that way too.
The Personal Is Political and Universal
In Inner Life Writes, readers find healing through both personal and collective experiences. I pick up the subject of the problem of the human heart from both these fundamental angles. Weaved together during covid when “collective responsibility” and the “spirit of cooperation” became the order of the day, Inner Life Writes is a collection of essays, deeply thought-through and heartfelt reflections, poems and memoir, filled with deep nuggets of wisdom requiring some sitting and experimenting with. It is an eye-opening read.
Embracing the Wisdom of the Past for a Brighter Future
The Sankofa bird sits centre at the front of the book cover. Sankofa is an African word from the Akan tribe in Ghana. Sankofa is derived from the words: SAN (return), KO (go), FA (look, seek and take) Visually and symbolically, Sankofa is expressed as a mythic bird with its feet firmly planted forward with its head turned backwards. The Akan believe the past serves as a guide for planning the future and that there is wisdom in learning from the past which ensures a strong future. For the Akan there must be movement and new learning as time passes. This is the message at the heart of Inner Life Writes.
What is Deeply and Thoroughly Understood Will Not Repeat Itself. Krishnamurti
Having RE-turned from the wreckage of my own personal & collective past, through my own heroine journey, arriving at a more psychologically, racially, spiritually liberated Self, I believe my purpose in life is one of Light-Giver and Bearer-a state of being coming out of the fundamental lessons I have re/learned, and equally observed, in my psychotherapy work.
Awakening Inner Strength for a More Compassionate World
As human beings, we have that something inside so strong, that can help us overcome almost anything in this life, whilst holding steadfast to an unwavering love for humanity, in all its light forms. This body of work petitions for the opening to a more Inner-directed– Life. All subjects covered are on matters we humans struggle & grapple with, which have reached fever pitch again on the world stage…the wounded planet earth and man’s inhumanity to its own kind. Yet, a critical mass continues to build and herald in a more humane and just world for us, all.
Inner Life Writes: A Manifesto For RE-Connecting To Love, RE-Newing Your Light and Radiating Your Light, was published in 2023. It’s my second book in the Back to Love series trilogy. Back to Love published in 2021 is book one. I am currently working on the third book- a book of poems.
