“Love is complicated, but it becomes impossible when you don’t believe it even exists.”
Delving into Wounds of the Past: The Compelling Narrative of ‘Illogical’ by Sienna Zini
My name is Sienna Zini, and my book, Illogical, is an “enemy-to-lovers” story (with a juicy twist) of Jay and Aisling, a tale that explores child trauma, emotional wounds, and the enduring power of love.
Jay Harris is a twenty-nine-year-old creative director who loves his job and strives to be the best at it. He also loves women. For a night, at least, because, in his own words, he doesn’t do the dating thing. Aisling Connelly is a ruthless young woman who has grown up in the industry and has a bad
reputation when it comes to relationships. When Jay’s firm hires Aisling, and they end up working together, things go south. Fast.
These characters came to me almost simultaneously. It’s how it always happens for me: acharacter pops into my head with the clarity of a real person, of a long-lost friend, and takes more and more space until it’s impossible to ignore them, and I need to tell their story.
Transformation and Resilience in ‘Illogical’ by Sienna Zini
I must be honest; I can’t say I liked either of “Illogical” main characters at the start. Jay was a player, full of himself, convinced that being good-looking and smart granted him the right to treat women badly, to be arrogant and dismissive. But he was also a good friend and, though begrudgingly, a caring son to a family not so deserving of his time and heartache. And Aisling…well, suffice to say she enrages most of my readers, at least until the end of the book. I love her now, but penetrating her armor took me a long time.
Put them together, though, and they created an explosive mix of funny, sexy, and maddening that I could not ignore. Their friends joined the party completing the picture, and the deed was done. I had to write their story to see where they would lead me and what they would teach me.
I know it sounds weird, but like many other authors, I let the characters take the lead and guide me through their lives.
I am thrilled I got the privilege to write Jay and Aisling’s story because Illogical is all about overcoming your fears and being true to yourself, no matter how much it can hurt. It’s about child trauma and how it affects all kinds of relationships. I believe it will speak to those who have ever
felt love has let them down, who have lost hope that things may ever change, and to whoever knows that emotional wounds can change how you interact with others and how difficult it is to heal from them. But it is also a book for the eternally optimistic who believe that love always wins in the end.
Jay and Aisling’s Transformative Path in ‘Illogical’
Jay and Aisling take a long journey to figure themselves out, motivated by something neither is willing to name at first, and I hope my readers will take that journey with them. One made of laughter, heartbreak, steamy scenes, friendship, and a lot of passion.
It’s always an indescribable emotion to hear from a reader, to learn that my characters had a space in their lives and left a sign, as small as it may have been. As a new author, I don’t have many reviews, but one on Illogical really made my day when I read it because it made me feel like I was able to share with the reader exactly how I felt when I wrote this book. I’d like to share it with you: “The author truly knows how to create a believable chemistry between two characters and maintains a sizzling romantic tension between Jay and Aisling throughout the story. It’s the impassioned verbal sparring, the contrasting love/hate relationship (both between the two main characters and between the characters and the reader!!!!), the building attraction, the mercurial attitude of the characters, that makes this book so exciting. The story is intricate and compelling and wonderfully choreographed.”
Pursuing Dreams Amidst Life’s Twists: A Journey to Self-Publishing ‘Illogical’
Illogical is my third self-published book. Since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a writer, and I have never given up that dream; it always was a little nag at the back of my mind. In the meantime, I have taken a law degree, married, had a kid, changed many jobs, and traveled the world. I am a mean cook and a loyal friend. I love reading – there is always enough time to read a book for me, even if I have to lose sleep – and I firmly believe the more I read, the better a writer I can become.
Well written and captivating article, and such a nice initiative, giving space to new writers to present their work and tell a little about themselves! Sienna deserves all the attention she can get and I hope that many readers will read her books and enjoy them as much as I did!
