I was inspired to write this series because I’ve always been fascinated by the women who refused to be boxed in by their time. The Goodwin sisters may live in the past, but their struggles with independence, identity, and intimacy are timeless.
At its heart, Esmeralda’s Coup is about choosing love without losing yourself. It’s about finding courage in the face of uncertainty and fighting for what’s right—even when you’re not sure you’ll win.
Although most of my life has been spent in places far from the sea, its call has often echoed in my dreams, and the kind of storms that cause havoc in the lives of the people in this book reflect the characters’ inner storms. The English cliffs, with their secrets and storms, seemed the perfect backdrop for Esmeralda’s final test.
