The day of my Awakening remains vividly etched in my memory. It was raining, and I was greeted by a strikingly tall and attractive Inner City nurse who flashed a gap-toothed smile at me. Her words were incomprehensible, likely due to my lack of an Epidermal Translator. I vaguely recall her saying something like, “You are such a handsome man, do you mind if I do you here before the doctor comes back?” Although I couldn’t recognize my surroundings, I knew one thing: I had been Awakened.

In this context, Awakening meant emerging from stasis after serving a period of incarceration. By the late 2200s, criminals were placed in stasis as a cost-effective alternative to traditional imprisonment. This legal system, influenced by the absurdities of New Age Lawyers, turned every aspect of life into a potential legal issue.
The Legal Jackpot: Grimson Jange’s Fortune Through a Landmark Case
For instance, my friend Grimson Jange, a fellow Air Corps member, left the service with nearly 10 million Terra Credits after a lucrative lawsuit. To give perspective, a five-course meal cost about 2 credits, a Flotation Car ranged from 1,000 to 2,000 credits, and a standard habitation module was about 5,000 credits. Grimson’s wealth came from a landmark Reverse Sexual Harassment case he orchestrated.

The case involved Miss Jenna P. Williams, who unknowingly aroused to the point of distraction. Unable to perform his duties, Grimson sued her, claiming her presence sabotaged national security. It set a precedent that forced women to avoid any form of attractiveness in the workplace to prevent lawsuits from men claiming Reverse Sexual Harassment
Awakening to Pain: My Return After 30 Years
By November 1, 2320, nearly 30 years had passed since I was put to sleep. The gap-toothed nurse was still present, now trying to appear unappealing with her forced smile. The doctor entered with a syringe, a small peanut-sized capsule, and a scalpel. I realized he intended to insert my Epidermal Translator, a procedure notoriously painful. The doctor made a small incision in my neck and jammed in the device. The pain was excruciating, and I could only curse and scream as the device was implanted without anesthesia.
A Moment of Dark Humor: The Doctor’s Disdain
Once the pain subsided and my vision cleared, I overheard a conversation between the nurse and the doctor. The nurse commented on the procedure’s brutality, while the doctor, Dr. Horatio P. Williams, expressed disdain for me, revealing my connection to Grimson’s lawsuit. I found humor in Dr. Williams’s name, pronounced as “Whore-a-tio,” which made me snicker despite the situation.
My laughter provoked Dr. Williams, who approached me angrily. Before he could act, his head exploded from a gunshot, fired by a Ministry of Peace Officer clad in black motorcycle gear. The officer’s robotic voice commanded me to “Stand down, Citizen,” but it seemed too late as laser sights trained on me.
A Violent Conclusion: The End of My Awakening Day
Three more officers entered the room, while Miss Gap-tooth Nurse cowered under the bed. Before I could express my gratitude for their timely intervention, one of the officers knocked me unconscious with the butt of his gun. As I fell, one of the officers reported, “Subject acquired,” signaling the end of my initial Awakening day.
Writing this book has been a deeply personal experience, allowing me to explore themes and ideas I’ve always been curious about but never fully expressed. Its not just a story—it’s a piece of me. I poured my heart and soul into it and have come to appreciate the power of storytelling in a new light. Storytelling is more than an art form; it’s a way to connect with others, transcend time and place, inspire, provoke thought, and offer new perspectives.
Crafting Memorable Stories with Unexpected Twists
From a young age, I’ve been captivated by stories with surprising twists. For me, ironic outcomes are like the punchline of a great joke, delivering memorable moments that leave a lasting impression. I love incorporating twists into my work to ensure every story has something memorable for readers to reflect on.
In addition to twists, I believe humor and life lessons elevate a simple story. Humor adds warmth and approachability, making storytelling enjoyable. Stories should also offer meaningful life lessons, providing depth and resonance that readers carry with them long after finishing the book.
I hope Dealing With Time Is Messed Up balances humor, surprise, and insight. I want readers to feel as though they’ve embarked on a journey—one filled with unexpected turns, laughter, and moments of reflection. This book represents my desire to create stories that entertain and mean something.
