What is your book about?
After a trip to a Native American cave, Alex Winters and two of his friends (Ashley and Jamal) are given powers to fight the forces of darkness and are destined to prevent the End of Days.
It’s a race against the clock when a young girl is kidnapped by a cult hellbent on raising a demon, with her as its vessel.
Alex’s investigation is hindered by his father (the chief of police) and the lead detective on the case, both of whom don’t believe in the paranormal. The team must find the girl and prevent the ritual or The Doom Bringer will possess her and jumpstart the end of the world.
What inspired you to write the book?
The idea for “Bad Moon Rising” came from a Writer’s Seminar I attended in Morgan City about ten years ago. At the end, the host gave us about five images to choose from and write a short little piece on it. I used the satanic altar. When I started, the idea started flowing and eventually became the center of my story. I had written fanfiction and did Journal RPs, but wanted to do some authentic writing.
The short story was in a notebook I had for keeping ideas and a few years ago when I came across it I finally started an outline to flesh it out and finally finished it last year.
As I began writing, ideas started popping in my head for future books, so I’m keeping notes on that too so as I finish each book I can begin work on the next one. I’m hoping to have Book 2: Urban Legends out by next summer.
What is your target audience?
If you love supernatural and superhero shows, you’ll enjoy this. It pays homage to Buffy and Supernatural and a little bit of Team Arrow, but is still something completely different. Teens to adults are the general age range.
What do you hope readers get out of your book?
I just hope they have a fun time reading it. I try to put a mix of everything in what I write: humor, scares, heart, intense moments. Overall, I hope they just enjoy the ride, love the characters and root for them to succeed (and maybe start shipper wars in reddit).
What are your future goals/plans for the book?
For this one, I’m hoping to distribute it at a local bookstore and try to do some book signings, maybe a convention or two.
I’m currently working on Book 2 right now and hope to have the first draft done by the end of the year. My overall plan is for a five book series and the third one is already storyboarded. Just have to write the main outline for it.
Something about yourself.
I was born in a small town in Louisiana. My mom was a nurse and my dad was a sheriff’s deputy. He is part of the reason I have a love for mysteries and suspense. Most of what I know about the operations of investigating crimes comes from him. I was a middle child with an older brother who passed away in 2008 and a younger brother.
I’ve always been interested in expressing my creativity. As a kid, the first thing I wrote was for a school project during a Reading Week. We had to write a short story about a field trip, prizes for the best stories. My story involved Fozzie Bear driving us in a time traveling school bus. We met Ben Franklin. Needless to say, I got a prize.
I spent a majority of my adult life working in television production, editing commercials and promos to directing newscasts. Creating something from nothing is just a passion of mine and I love sharing it with the world.
