What is your book all about?
This is a fun and humorous Christmas picture book about two cats learning how to get along and show each other kindness and generosity.
Description: Max is perfectly content to be the only cat in the house. His family loves him and takes care of him, which is all that he needs. Why mess with perfection? So when a surprise new kitten named Abby arrives on Christmas Eve, Max is very upset. He is supposed to be the favorite (and only) cat in the house! So he comes up with a plan (…and another…and another…) to get Abby out of the house once and for all. But then suddenly Abby is in trouble, and it’s up to Max to save her. Max soon learns what matters more in life, which is the gift that keeps on giving.
What inspired you to write the book?
I have always loved reading holiday books as a kid, and I wanted to give young readers that same sense of holiday magic and excitement that I experienced. My previous two cats’ (from when I was younger) were the inspiration for this book. I took out pieces of their personalities and I created a story around it. I always base my characters’ in my books around real people or real life experiences.
Target Audience: About ages 2-6
What do you hope readers could get out from your book?
I hope that young readers will have fun laughing along with the characters while learning about kindness, gift-giving, and true holiday spirit.
What are your future goals/plans for your book?
I plan to do my best to get my book into as many bookstores, gift shops, and libraries as possible.
About Myself: I have been a published children’s book author and illustrator for almost six years now. It’s been an incredible learning experience! I have met so many kind and talented authors along the way, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be able to become a published author and illustrator. I am also very grateful for any encouragement I receive from other people. It makes all the difference in the world to me and it’s what keeps me going as a writer. I have to continually remind myself not to get frustrated or be too hard on myself, and to just write for the joy of creating stories. Every author has something unique to offer, and no two stories are exactly the same. That’s what makes it a true work of art.
I have also written a children’s ballet book series titled “Sugarplum Stars.” I always had a great passion for dance. Ballet has taught me the value of hard work and gave me a sense of accomplishment (I took ballet lessons as a teenager), as well as a new appreciation for the field of performing arts. I especially loved (and still do!) to watch The Nutcracker every year. The beautiful costumes and magical scenery was like being in a fairy tale. I wanted to incorporate the nutcracker story into my picture book to give readers the same feeling of childlike wonderment.
In addition to this series I have also written two other holiday-themed books: “Easter Chicks” and “Cats on Halloween Night” (my other favorite holiday!). My Halloween book includes some of my characters’ from both my Christmas and Guardian Angel book (“My Grandma’s Guardian Angels,” based upon my late grandma and her family and cat she adored). That’s what makes my books so meaningful for me; adding in characters and events from my own life and incorporating it into a new story. And I have plenty more stories up ahead where that came from! A writer is never satisfied until their story is ready to be told, right?
