From Trauma to Triumph: A Personal Journey Through Grief, Faith, and Resilience
If I had to describe my book “Why I Am Me” to someone who has never read it, I would say that it is about traumatic events and resiliency. It is my journey throughout my life and how I came out on the other side. Because of the trauma, and grief I lost my faith in God. To be honest I was angry with God. I began writing my book as a journal while going to grief counseling. My counselor said “You have so much that has happened to you I think it would be beneficial to write it in chronological order.” So that is what I did, it started 14 years ago, I decided to turn it into a book. It took me a long time because of the difficulty of writing about the close deaths I endured.
Finding Purpose Through Pain: Using My Journey to Inspire Others and Offer Hope Beyond Belief
You may ask what inspired me to write my memoir and let others into the deep crevices of my life. I am a Christian and being a Christian I was wondering what my calling was. I had a definite feeling that I was supposed to use my life to reach out to other people, those that have also had traumatic events and show them that even if you lose your faith, Jesus is waiting for you to come back. If you do not believe in God that is o.k. My book is not completely full of my beliefs, it is a book that anyone can read and will not be turned off because I just want to be an example and not force anything on anyone.
Helping Others Through My Story: A Journey of Trauma, Healing, and Future Projects
First and foremost, my book is put out to help other people. This is my main goal. It would be nice to be able to make something so that I can go and speak or do podcasts etc. I like to speak to people and give them a peek into my life. In my book you will find abuse, abandonment, death, complicated grief, PTSD. My son was a Marine and you will get a look into his life as well. Just a taste because I am working on a book just about him, his life’s journey as a youngster as well as his career in the Marines as a videographer and his epilepsy. So, when people ask if I will extend my book I can say in a way, my son’s book is an extension of “Why I Am Me surviving grief and trauma.”
Gratitude and Reflections: Embracing the Journey of Writing and Self-Publishing Despite Health Challenges
I’d like to take a moment and thank Author’s Lounge for the opportunity to tell you about my book. I was very excited to be asked to write an article for them as well as get my book seen.
I love writing and have enjoyed this adventure so far. I’ve self-published my book which has been a learning curve but it keeps me busy. I was diagnosed and put on disability for heart failure in 2010 and since Covid I did very well staying healthy until spring of 2023 when I got a very mild case of Covid and a few weeks later developed Post Covid Sequalae. This has really limited me as I am exhausted a lot. I will not bore you with the details but it has given me time to write.
Family, Passion, and Legacy: Balancing Life with My Grown Children, Grandchildren, and a Love for Miniature American Shepherds
I am a mother of 4 grown children. A daughter and 3 sons. My daughter has given me two beautiful grandchildren, a boy and a girl. We really enjoy spending time with the grandchildren. My husband has been very supportive and I also have two Miniature American Shepherds. We raised puppies and showed dogs when my youngest was growing up. It was our passion and I currently have a dog that is my 4th generation breeding.
As I close this article, I want to thank all my readers and I hope that you can recommend my book to friends and family if they are going through bereavement or have gone through abuse. I truly think my book will be an inspiration to anyone who likes to read. I was told by one reader that reading the book was like sitting and talking to me over a cup of coffee. It is very relatable.
