Wanting Ms. Mangrove by  Regina Thomas

One of my favorite quotes is a saying by Albert Einstein and it goes, “Creativity is intelligence having fun”.

And it accurately described the process behind my book Wanting Ms. Mangrove

Let’s rewind a bit. My name is Regina Thomas, and I am a budding writer from Barbados, a small island in the Caribbean.

I have always been passionate about reading- the way people can tell a story through words that materialize in your brain as you read. It has always amazed me. In time, I tried my hand at writing, starting with small compositions at school until I graduated to writing books.

My first book was Unintentional Target which I published on Kindle Unlimited as an e-book in 2021. I remember the excitement and fulfillment I felt knowing that like authors before me, I had managed to create a story solely based on my imagination.

I wanted it to be a series, however, school got in the way and then adult life did. I had an obvious case of writer’s block with no way of how to get out of it.

It was depressing and disheartening since writing is all I wanted to do but as much as I tried I never had the energy or my juices flowing enough to write a paragraph, furthermore a chapter.

After six months of working at a local media house writing news articles, I believed my writer’s block was cured but, unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

I had a blast writing new stories and features that moved people but when it came to my fictional world, I still had no way to return to what I considered my happy place.

Eventually, I took the leap and quit my job. I often asked myself if I was crazy or if I was making the right decision.

Yet, a calmness that resided in me told me that I was on the right path even if it seemed that I had left a sure thing.

So, for two weeks, I stayed at home reading book after book on Kindle- continuously getting lost in the various worlds afforded to me through the creativity of others.

Until June 9, a rush of ideas just came to me. I can’t describe how quickly I ran to my laptop and began to jot down everything- from which Wanting Ms. Mangrove came about.

I wrote an outline of my main characters and the general idea of the plot and was so taken with the story, I created the cover of my book and began to write the first two chapters that said day.

It started slowly at first, trying to understand what my characters would or wouldn’t do and how I wanted to tell the story- first or third person- but when my fingers hit those keys, it was like a new me had been unleashed.

And it was then I knew I made the right decision, and I was confident that if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

About My Book

Wanting Ms. Mangrove is a romance novel that screams “feel good” entertainment. It revolves around Noah Cincinnati, a 22-year-old who came from a very wealthy family, and Amelia Mangrove, a 35- year-old plus-size woman who had taken the corporate world by storm.

He meets her on his path to redemption, hoping to regain the favor of his family, but in true, romantic fashion, he falls in love with her. Of course, he doesn’t know that at first and thinks it’s simply lust.

Though, that doesn’t stop him from pursuing the well-established Ms. Mangrove and together they partake in an affair that is forbidden and unacceptable by society’s standards.

At some point reality sets in and the bubble that protected them from the public’s judgment is burst and they are forced to confront their feelings which won’t end happily ever after. Or does it?

The novel is a perfect source for romance, forbidden love, drama, with a tiny drop of spice to keep readers hot and ready to see where Noah and Amelia’s journey ends.

Therefore, it was ideal that I ended my writer’s block with such a wonderful piece of art and have it featured on Authors’ Lounge.

And with that, I hope that you find it interesting enough to read. Also, I encourage you to leave a few comments about your thoughts on the book.

A good writer is never afraid of criticism, it’s what makes them a great writer.
