Unknown Son by L.H. Chevalier

unknown son fantasy

Greetings, dear readers,

I’m the author of the book Unknown Son, my real name is… not English, hence the pen name L.H. Chevalier. (which is still not English but it’s easier to write so…. close enough)

Becoming a writer was my dream ever since I was 10 – actually, no, it wasn’t. I never believed I could write more than an essay for school.

It took some time, but I did it! I wrote a book I liked! Truly a dream come true. )

And then I translated it into English! I, formerly a self-taught nerd, which learned English from PC games! (mostly WoW, for those who know)

To put it into my own words from the end of my book:

“This may sound silly, but by doing this, I’ve changed my destiny. At least in my eyes, and that’s the most important thing, after all.” – Think about it as my American Dream, without having to go to America. 😉

I grew up on fantasy. I fell in love with the escapism it offers you. In the stories, you don’t have to care about anything in the “real world”. Well, until you can’t hold your pesky bladder anymore. I needed this to get through those difficult years without going insane. (of which I’m still not entirely sure)

I’m 30 now. My approach to life has changed, but I still love fantasy. So my first book had to be fantasy, naturally.

My greatest hope is that someone out there (ideally a human, but I don’t discriminate) will find the same escape in my work – albeit probably not in such a short book, but hey, it was my first time! I’ll do better next time, okay?

Now that you made it to the end (unless you started at the end, in which case, shame on you, cheater), I can finally reveal the true meaning of FEAR…  I mean reveal what the chevalier in my name means.

Its original meaning is a horseman. Well, last time I checked I was a man and I have a horse of my own. Sort of. To be honest I just liked the many pronunciations (namely the French one but all of them work). Mostly it just beats saying I’m on a wheelchair.

I guess this shows the rest of the article in a whole new light, doesn’t it?

Enough about me! Let’s get down to business:

It’s my great pleasure to introduce my first and probably not my last book, Unknown Son.

Set in a simple yet beautiful land with no magic, the local baron finds a young man in the woods and takes him back home to the castle.

There the boy tries to remember what happened and get his life together but is soon forced to run for his life once again.

It’s a mystery fantasy novella for (not only) young adults with a bit of a thriller, a decent amount of suspense, and a lot of humor on top.

In other words, it’s mostly funny, sometimes scary, and if you’re over 80, it’s downright horror. 🙂

Give it a shot. Who knows, you might like it.

If not, well, it’s all going to be over soon… like, seriously, it’s a short book (155 pages).

 Here goes the blurb:

Have you ever woken up in the middle of a forest,
not knowing where and when you are,
                                                 why you are there,
or, you know, who you are in the first place?
                                               Yeah, me neither…

But if you add a bunch of nutters,
put them in an unknown land,
mix it with a little bit of blood
(or a lot of it, depending on your preference),
shake it all up, and voilà,
you got yourself the story of this book.
In essence. Or you can simply read it.
                                                       Your choice.

The idea for this book came from, believe it or not, a PC game (told you I was a nerd). I was making a backstory for my character, starting with “the incident”, then I read it and came to the conclusion it’s essentially just a horizontal slice of sorts, going right to the action (totally fine and all, I’m just not a fan of slicing). So I got to writing a backstory to my backstory.

After some time I realized it was a terrible backstory! Way too long. But I actually enjoyed reading it.  Therefore I continued writing. 🙂

My book was originally supposed to release in March in my country. But due to, let’s say, technical difficulties, it came out in August. It was an amazing feeling, however, something was missing.

Fast forward to November 14., and the English version is here! Admittedly, this was the worst part of the year to do so. At least for me personally.

But meh. It’s finally out. I’m happy. You’re happy. Everybody’s happy.

As for the future, I don’t like planning too far ahead because stuff tends to happen A lot of stuff…

Well, that was depressing! The best I can give you is, I definitely want to work on my series, if for no other reason, than to see what I come up with next.

But if I do the whole write-edit-publish, rinse and repeat… that will be a surprise for you as well as for me.

If you want, here is my Twitter account, come, say hi, or don’t.

Have a look at my book.

I have no website so far but check this out.

With my last breath, I would like to thank the Readers Magnet, namely Rebecca Jordan, for putting this on the Authors’ Lounge and helping me become less unknown.

So thank you. You’re awesome! Keep it up. 😉
