Our salvation is built around the transforming and renewing of our minds. It is utterly pointless if all we do is conform to the world around us.
Jesus teaches about the importance of inner spiritual transformation. Renewing your mind through Jesus is a crucial aspect of this new life we should live. Moreover, it involves a shift in our thinking patterns, beliefs, and perspectives. As Jesus’ resurrection is humanity’s hope, we must consider His involvement in what a transformed and renewed mind is.
Salvation Through Faith in Christ
Jesus calls people to repent their sins and wrongdoings as they receive His forgiveness. This repentance and acceptance of God’s grace can lead to being transformed by renewing our mind. It leaves behind old patterns of thought and behavior that once didn’t glorify the Lord. As we are transformed by renewing our minds, we can truly experience real salvation. After all, Jesus gives it freely to anyone who is willing and ready to receive Him with all their hearts.
Consequently, faith is the byproduct of this salvation. Therefore, no one should think that their salvation is their own doing. Hence, we need a book about the power of faith and determination to bring us back to the real source of our transformed and renewed mind and spirit. For apart from God, we can do nothing since He’s the one who granted pardon for all our sins and transgressions against Him.
Being Transformed by Renewing Your Mind for Good
The apostle Paul writes about the importance of “being transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). If we focus on that for a bit, we see that we shouldn’t conform to the patterns of the world. Furthermore, wasting our lives with false success and prosperity will lead to nothing but ruin. If we go with the flow, our faith and passion for Christ become stagnant.
Therefore, Jesus’ teachings emphasize the need to align our thoughts with what is holy and pleasing to God. If we are on the same wavelength as His will, that’s when we can truly say that we’ve been transformed for the better.
The Look of Genuine Transformation
Transformation is not simply about doing a 180, nor about switching from the to-do list of the flesh to following the law. Moreover, it doesn’t imply replacing immoral behaviors with Christian alternatives to be absolved from accountability. To be clear, it is the power of the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. He is more than enough after shedding His blood for our redemption. As a result, we have a Spirit-wrought change, brought from the inside out rather than the typical outside in.
More than external transformation, genuine renewing of our mind starts from within; otherwise, we’d only be putting on a front. Nonconformity to the world doesn’t also mean avoidance and depravity of normal, worldly behavior. However, we can still avoid the same worldly behaviors that won’t please God our Savior.
Surrendering and Depending On God
In a world that perpetuates this belief, we have been taught to rely on ourselves all our lives. However, Jesus teaches us to surrender our lives to God as we become transformed and renewed in Him. Furthermore, only His divine power and strength, rather than our own efforts, are more than enough. Through our total dependence on God, we finally find identity and purpose, which was part of God’s plan.
Despite the initial connotation that the Christian life comes with being submissive and enslaved, that is not literally the case. We need to constantly remind ourselves that freedom in Christ has truly set us free, enabling us to stand firm and never be yoked again from the slavery of sin. It only means that what we do for Him out of love and devotion is true freedom. After all, being transformed and renewed in Christ makes us love what we should do.
Hope and Eternal Glory in Christ
Jesus offers the promise of eternal life and the hope of a restored relationship with God. Our priorities and values change for the better through our transformation and renewal. Thus, evaluating ourselves through this checklist helps us see if we genuinely found transformation and renewal in Christ:
- The longing to break free from conforming to the world
- Strong desire to be changed anew from the inside out
- Wanting badly to be free from mere duty-driven Christianity
- The desire to offer our bodies as living sacrifices
Remember that our whole lives should become a spiritual act of worship that displays the truth of Christ above the world’s. Therefore, we should give all our might to pursuing this lifestyle—transforming and renewing our minds.
