Sixteen Steps to Heaven is the first book in the DCI Kelly Lynch Series

The bright lights and bustling culture of London is draw for many seeking a new life. Captivated by images of glitz and glamour, fame and fortune, promises of grandeur or simply to escape sour relationships, from families, friends or lovers. But behind that illustrious cloak of magnificence reality prevails, destitution, gang wars, drugs, prostitution, and finally murder.

DCI Kell Lynch is the senior investigating officer for the London Serious Crime Investigation Unit, who along with a crack team of detectives was established to investigate some of the more taxing and brutal crimes across all thirty-two boroughs of the nation’s capital.

An early morning call alerts them to the discovery of a female body slumped under bushes in St Mary’s Gardens Islington. A beautiful woman in her prime mindlessly deprived of life, lying motionless glaring into space amongst a bed of leaves and mud. The crime scene is clean, no fingerprints, DNA, CCTV footage or even a boot mark nothing for the LSCIU to dig their claws into, only a fatal head wound, and a set of brutal angel wings carved into the dorsum of the victim by a cold calculated killer. When more bodies appear and other blonde haired, blue eyed stunning young women vanish without a trace from the city streets, alarm bells ring as to why. The pressure is on to find those girls before they too become angels. But will it be too late for some.

The investigation escalates further when DCI Lynch finds herself embroiled within the case deeper than anticipated, and it becomes a race for her team to find the killer before more bodies are discovered, before more young women line the sixteen steps to Heaven.

Inspiration –

Writing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, however for years I put my writing aside, possibly out of embarrassment or then again fear of failure as much anything. The area I come from is surrounded by heavy industry and writing or being creative was slightly frowned upon until recent times. But I have always loved to write and read since an early age my favorite books then being Roald Dahl ‘s Danny the champion of the world and John Steinbecks Of mice and men which I studied at GCSE English Literature. Since then, I’ve grown to enjoy a plethora of genres from Historical fiction (Bernard Cornwall) to biographically releases. But my passion has always been thrillers and in particular crime thrillers. One of my interests is crime and especially murders, I find the process and the science behind the solving of murders fascinating. Authors such as Robert Bryndza and Simon Kernick inspired me to write my own novel Sixteen Steps to heaven book one in the DCI Lynch series in an attempt to take the readers to those dark unassuming places we hope to never experience in real Life.

My target audience is young adult, adult fiction for a thriller/crime thriller genre.

Readers –

I want my readers to experience a journey and a whole new world whilst reading my books, to become embroiled with the characters and live their lives and emotions alongside them. I aim to draw readers in, hooked from a start before being tipped upside down with anticipation, scrutinizing the plot only for their analogies to be blown out of the water by the twisted crescendo which leaves them wanting more. Readers are an authors bread and butter, receiving reviews and comments is fantastic, and overwhelmingly satisfying. Trust me when I say there is nothing better than sitting with a pint in hand whilst frequenting the local pub when people approach to inform you how much they enjoyed my book and then go into detail regarding characters and plot before asking when the next one is out. It is truly humbling, and I thank them all.

The future –

My first novel Northern Monkeys was released in April 2022 in progress is the much-anticipated sequel Monkeys Too which I’m hoping will be ready for publication later this year. Sixteen Steps to Heaven was released in May of this year, again the sequel The Lakeside Elite is already in progress. As with any author my ambition is to write for a living, to do something I love and achieve my goals by doing so.

About the author –

Robert Slakki I’m an author born and bred in a dying industrial town situated in Northern Lincolnshire, bordering Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. My passion is reading and writing although the love in my life is without doubt my family, wife and two children, a boy and Girl now in their late teens who make him glow with pride every day at their achievements, manners and giving nature. Also, to complete our clan are two dogs, a huge Rottweiler Labrador cross and a mischievous Jack Russel, alongside two horses. All of which keeps me more than busy in between work commitments and writing. Rugby is another one of my passions having played for twenty years and coached a local side before my body decided it would be more acceptable and safer to watch from the sofa with a cold beer.
