In Shadows Lie, The Light Within, and A Dance with Darkness comprise T. Emiller’s debut Christian Dark Fantasy series. The story starts in a world similar to our own, and follows an average young adult trying to navigate the working world until a series of strange dreams lead them on an unexpected journey. After being ripped away from their life, Liana uncovers strange powers and memories of her past. As she grows the power within her, betrayal forces her into another realm full of dark and mysterious creatures. The nightmares continue, and Liana’s cryptic past unravels while she is faced with sinister forces. Will she gain control before it’s too late? As dark influences continue to gain power, Liana feels driven to lead the Kingdom she fell into through the nightmare unleashed. In shadows lie an enemy most cunning, but with the power of the light within, Liana will find the hope to preserve and offer a dance with darkness, but can she make it to the end, or will she risk falling for the riddles along the way?

I was first inspired to write this series when I was in my early teens. I have sleep paralysis and it had progressed into something extremely difficult at that time. I would deprive myself of sleep for extended periods of time in an attempt to avoid the attacks, though I didn’t realize at the time that this can make them worse. My mother said for the sake of my health, I couldn’t continue and suggested I journal the episodes. After a bit of time, my brother read the journal and suggested I turn it into a book. Countless times I wrote versions of the story, and they were lost or destroyed along the way. I also became lost and destroyed along the way but after being baptized, I felt led to write again and was drawn back to this tale. My partner discovered it and encouraged me to publish. After a long journey, the first of the series was published in 2020.

Though I have fans that span countries, age ranges, and many other demographics, my target audience is really any adult who is looking for their next fantasy adventure that can handle a few darker twists throughout and likes something that is inspired to lead toward the light. I hope that my readers are able to get a sense of courage from the book series and for a moment maybe lose themselves in another world.

My goals are to continue to adapt this story and God be willing, my hopes are to grow it into something bigger. I love the series and the world created here! I have lots of stories to tell but I hope to dip back into the In Shadows Lie world in the future. There is still more to tell there, perhaps from another angle and perspective.

As a writer, my favorite thing to write besides poetry, is fantasy. I’m currently reading about 4 books, but it changes so often that it’s best to watch the socials if one would care about specifics like that. I like to keep my TBR going with something inspirational, something educational, something poetic, and something for fun. In addition to the reading and writing portions of my life, I enjoy kayaking, hiking, and being bundled next to the campfire. I also love painting, gaming, photography, and have many more interests! I spend most of my time, however, obsessing over my two beautiful children, several animals, and a partner that I adore.
