My forth book liquid Gold is no doubt classed as a Science Fiction novel.
Liquid Gold. Set one hundred years in the future, when the climate change is in full swing. Australia is running out of water, the monsoons have disappeared from the top of the country, and the normal rain patterns from Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia and the Norther territory are non existent. This created a mass emigration from those states and territories to the eastern seaboard.
Half of the population of Australia had to be resettled in New South Wales and Queensland, with a million going to Tasmania.
Sixteen million souls created havoc for the Government. Lack of jobs, lack of water and lack of infrastructure created a them and us situation. Lawlessness and water rationing to twenty liters a day was the catalyst for the government becoming a dictatorship. The government decided to depopulate the country.
The first country to have its people sent home was New Zealand. Over two million Kiwis lived permanent in Australia and were Australian citizens. It was illegal in international Law to deport, but the Australian Government went ahead creating havoc for a small country like New Zealand with its population of eight million. New Zealand had to try and merge all the Australian Kiwis throughout the country. Every town and city in the country had to take ten percent of their population. It was a nightmare for the New Zealand Government.
The Australia Government, since it had got away with deporting Kiwis, started on Moslems, Pacific Islanders, Indians, Asians, Middle Eastern people, all were Australian citizens. Millions would be homeless. Australia then turned its attention to New Zealand’s water. The climate changed had double the rain in New Zealand and the country had built massive holding lakes in the Alps and in the high county of the North Island so in times of drought in the summer there would be sufficient water for the country. They were piping water from Fiordland to the east coast of Australia. The Australian Government thought it was not enough and with this in mind put in motion a plan to invade New Zealand.
This it outline of the story Inspiration for the story has come from Australia sending New Zealanders home who have a criminal record.
Quite a few of these people have lived all their lives in Australia and are citizens of that country but that has not deterred the government to send them back. Many have arrived with no family at all. This scenario was the idea “What If” they sent up to three generations back to New Zealand It makes interesting story.
Target audience is anyone who enjoys a good yarn. General population.
Even though it is science fiction as I had to really think about technology of the future the story I believe will suit all ages. A lot of high schools in New Zealand have the book as do libraries. So the book is for all age groups from high school to oldies. Not many people know that much about Australia and New Zealand tucked away at the bottom of the world. We are quite close two thousand kilometers between the two countries.
We have fought all wars together which gives us the Anzac tradition. From the Boer war in South Africa to Afghanistan. Today Kiwis an Aussie fight side by side. We are close, but sending people home from Australia has placed a tarnish on the closeness. Australia has always had the bigger economy with its population five time larger than New Zealand. Yet never underestimate a small country that has determination.
I hope the readers will understand that small it not easy beats, that a small country’s can do as well as a large country.
Maybe it hasn’t the resources of a large country but can influence and defend itself if it thinks outside the box. Just like Ukraine at the moment it needs help but it shows what a much smaller country can do. It would be nice to see my book get more likes and reader from all over the world. That’s my hope for the future of the book. Would it make a good movie? Most likely yes, but I don’t know a thing about promoting it.
It would be great for someone to pick it up. Though I would like to see book sales go up, that would make me happy. I’m an old bloke.
