Good morning! I’m Aliyah Burke and I am honored and humbled to write an article for the lovely folks at Authors’ Lounge. We’re going to be talking about, Kincade’s Rose, the first book in my SEAL Team series, The Megalodon Team.

What is your book all about?

It’s about a woman who is mistreated by her family, they don’t think she has anything valuable to offer, except to do what they say when they say, she finally does something for herself and takes a vacation to Belize. The hero is there on a forced vacation as he recovers from an injury he’d sustained on an op. The sparks are obvious between them but his past comes to find him and she is pulled into his world of danger. Exploding planes, stranded in the jungle trying to survive with people hunting them, she learns there is far more to this man than she first thought. He’s not about to let her go when they make it out.

What inspired you to write the book?

I’m a Navy wife so a lot of my books have military personnel in them. When I started writing this one, it was only going to be a single book. But I had this vision of a story taking place around Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary, the world’s only Jaguar Preserve located in Belize. So there we went to begin. The rest of Tyson’s team became such strong personalities, I realized they all needed a story of their own. I love romantic suspense and creating characters who aren’t your norm.

What is your target audience for the book?

Over 18 of course, but other than that. Anyone who loves alpha males and strong heroines, even if at the start, she doesn’t realize her own strength. I’m a sucker for Happily Ever After’s, so if that’s what you like, all my books have them. The road there may be hard but each one has a guaranteed HEA.

What do you hope readers could get out of your book?

Feelings. I hope it makes you happy, sad, angry, whatever. Just feel. Also, if you’re entertained that’s perfect. I do enjoy it when people learn things from books, so, that’s a bonus in my mind.

To me, the purpose of reading romance is to escape. To be able to put the reality of our day-to-day to the side for a little while and immerse in a different place.

What are your future goals/plans for the book?

As I said, at the start, this was just supposed to be a single book, but as of now there are 9 in the series and I hope to begin putting more in the series. Or another spinoff series. I have one, Tungsten Protective Services, that follows the men after they leave the service and start their own protection company. However, these men are so important to me, so I like to revisit them time and time again. Goals? Movies? That would be awesome, for sure!

And something more about yourself.

I am an avid animal lover. I raise, show, race, and do competitions with my dogs. Right now, I have Borzoi. My puppy is just a few days over 4 months now. Been about 7 years since I’ve had a puppy in the house and…wow, forgot how much work they are. I love to quilt, and study languages. Baking is another favorite pastime of mine. Nothing like having the smell of freshly baked bread, cookies, pie, or whatever in the house. I wish I could crochet, but…not there yet. I’m also a music lover. Almost any kind of music. I listen while I write, while I read, bake, walk, you name it. I didn’t grow up with television so music was my outlet. Even to this day, I’m far more likely to be seated in the living room with music on instead of the television.
