It Can’t Always Be Night!

It Can’t Always Be Night!

What is your book all about?

My first book is a book of poetry that I have been writing since the 5th grade about things I have encountered throughout the years good bad and indifferent. It’s called It Can’t Always Be Night! The second book I’m currently working on that’s available for preorder now entitled Mountains Can’t Rise Without Earthquakes is a memoir based on real-life events I’ve endured. Both can be purchased through my website

What inspired you to write the book?

God and my children inspired me to write about the obstacles I’ve overcome to be who I am today. I’ve overcome so much from childhood neglect, sexual abuse, drug-addicted parents, foster care issues, domestic violence, cancer, and lupus. Although I struggle with these illnesses and obstacles I never allowed my children to see my struggles. All they see is Mom. All my husband knows is I’m his wife. My husband has his legacy. He served his country, became a hero, has his degree, and continues to inspire people with his writing and speaking engagements. I was just a wife and mom. Or so I thought. God showed me all the gifts he has given me. He not only showed me my purpose, he showed me that I have so much to be thankful for, but I’m also a vessel for God so other troubled young women can see how when they believe in themselves how powerful they can be.

What is your target audience for the book?

My target audience is anyone who can relate to ages 2-200. All ages, races, and backgrounds. Anyone who breathes can relate or knows someone who can relate to my story. This is for the world and everyone in it. Mountains Can’t rise without Earthquakes is a tell-all about my life from the story of when my mom and dad first met, up until I became an adult and the long journey of heartbreaks, bad breaks, and no brakes that I’m sure a lot of hound women and men from the hood can relate to. I just want to show the ones that get counted out every day to not give up on themselves. We need the pressure to become diamonds. We will shine eventually. If life was easy, everyone could do it. Let’s give it what we have while we still have breath to do so.

What do you hope readers could get out of your book?

I hope and pray readers can get what a prodigal child looks like. What a real-life Ruth looks like. What does breaking generational curses look like?

What are your future goals/plans for the book?

I plan to host seminars and workshops for underprivileged children and young adults who need guidance. We have to know that things happen to us in our world based on the choices we make whether they are good or bad.

And something more about yourself.
