Hello, my name’s Briony Marshall and I’m an author from the UK. I’ve been asked to write this article by the lovely people of Authors’ Lounge so you can get to know me and my new book, From Rags to Richie.
Authors’ Lounge: What is your book all about?
I like to write rom-coms with a twist and From Rags to Richie is no exception! It tells the story of forbidden love on a film set. What will happen when the star of the show starts catching feelings for the wardrobe girl? You’ll have to read From Rags to Richie and find out!
AL : What inspired you to write the book?
Around that time I was listening to a lot of music. I used to daydream about the type of stories I would tell with these songs if I was to make their music videos. Then all the stories I was coming up with started intertwining and I was like “Woah, this is becoming it’s own thing!” Then I decided to take part in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) later that year and this was the story idea that I felt most connected with… and so From Rags to Richie was born.
AL: What is your target audience for the book?
Both my books tend to fall into the category of “chick-lit” or “mummy-lit”. However, I like to think that anyone who is after some good old fashioned escapism will enjoy my books. With From Rags to Richie it’s light, it’s fluffy. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you cry. It’s the perfect holiday or beach read for sure.
AL: What do you hope readers could get out from your book?
Entertainment. There’s already too much heavy stuff going on in the world. If my books allow someone to kick back, relax and have a good giggle, I’m happy.
AL: What are your future goals/plans for the book?
So we have From Rags to Richie the ebook. I’ve just released From Rags to Richie the paperback… I’m going to start dipping my toe in the world of audiobooks this year, so maybe From Rags to Richie the audiobook is the next logical step? However, I know I’m bias, but I think it would make a fantastic film or TV series. So if anyone who’s reading this could make that happen, be sure to drop me an email! Haha!
AL: And something more about yourself?
I’m not only an author but an avid crafter! My debut novel, Unravelled, definitely showcased this. So if I’m not writing you’ll find me crafting. Anything wool or fibre related is my favourite, like knitting or crochet. And if I’m not crafting well I’m probably drinking coffee.
