Bad things happen even to good people. You can’t help it. The fact of life that everyone experiences loss and challenging times is something that others find hard to accept. Sampson’s book on rising above life circumstances entitled “Sparrows of Senegambia” dwells on how one can power through such trials.
We are bound to face tough challenges that will tear us apart. There’s this feeling of despair and loneliness, and we feel like no one’s there to help or comfort us when we need one. Other times, a person might feel hollow and numb from trying to absorb the dire situation they experience. Shedding tears, the craving for solace, and zoning out is inevitable when life gets too hard.
Not Knowing What To Do Is The Hardest
It’s hard to act normal and feel fine when you’re in a situation where you don’t know what to do. Even if tools and online resources teach you how to deal with life’s most challenging battles, the best course of action is to face it head-on and accept that “it is what it is.” If you embrace the challenges instead of running away from them, you eventually become honest with yourself, and you can endure the pain even if you cannot erase it.
What You Can Do To Ease Things
If you are into jotting down stuff, you can try journaling. Do not be conscious about grammar or handwriting because that journal is entirely yours. It’s your private space on paper; no one can take that away from you. Take a few minutes to write freely in your journal daily while expressing your feelings. This way, you can vent out without having another person to listen if you don’t feel like talking.
You can also try breathing exercises if you’re not a fan of writing about sensitive and personal events in your life to maintain privacy. Get into meditation and training to get the stress out of your system. Common coping mechanisms like going for a few drinks, doom scrolling through social media, and stress eating to distract yourself and escape reality are unhealthy ways to deal with life’s problems.
Accepting one’s situation may not be an ideal thing to do, but it is necessary. Even if it’s easier said than done, every day has its own set of worries. Even the Bible has many wise words for people who have it hard in life. Please don’t waste time and energy overthinking tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Practicing self-care like treating yourself to a movie or relaxing massage are some ways you can deal with the stresses brought by life’s challenging times. Do what you think is best to cope healthily. And for the record, it’s not entirely true that ‘money can’t buy happiness. Money does, and it almost always solves everything for many people experiencing challenging moments.
Breaking Free From The Shackles
The positive side of experiencing complex challenges is that they teach you valuable lessons you will carry for the rest of your life. Even people with the sunniest dispositions are not immune to having bad days. Toxic positivity won’t help with anything either because it masks and rejects the difficulties with false hope, smiles, and “good vibes.” A positive attitude is good for your mental health, but if it means having to hide away from the actual problem instead of confronting them, that will eventually burst after being bottled up.
There isn’t any shortage of trials that people go through, especially those who live under constant worry. Trust the experience and what it can teach you so you won’t feel as lost as you once were when you faced the same struggles. It’s good to question the situation if they are moments of opposition that drag you to the mud, or are they moments of opportunity that help you grow as a person?
Don’t add any further stress to yourself when thrown into a pit fire, and work with what you have. There might be times that you can’t seek help from anyone for various reasons. If you must deal with hardships yourself, you need to unload any unnecessary burden that would potentially complicate the mess further. As the saying goes, ‘there’s no point in crying over spilled milk’ when accepting such negative feelings. Having sufficient emotional fluency and the capacity to make sound decisions will strengthen you.
