Foolish by Donneil D. Jackson

Foolish by Donneil D. Jackson

There comes a time in a person’s life when they’re ready to live life.

By living life, I mean whatever their vision of living looks like. For some it could be marriage, having children, traveling the world, or enjoying all that life is supposed to offer, even if that means settling. My sophomore novel, Foolish, is about a woman who is ready to live life. Kayla Washington is hell-bent on making a husband and father out of her current beau, despite his shortcomings. She ignores his indiscretions steady trying to force a square piece into a triangle spot for a puzzle titled her life. Foolish tackles relationships. Relationships amongst friends and lovers. It deals with real life issues such as estranged family and the consequences of absentee parents, just to name a few.

I began writing Foolish as part of a creative writing assignment, years later it would morph into something much more than intended. It’s the basis of a love story I was privy to witness, firsthand and as a bystander looking in. Foolish is a tale that many women can relate to. It’s a lesson to be learned throughout the pages of this fictional back-and-forth saga. A very entertaining lesson.

My fascination with books began with watching Reading Rainbow. I would make a list of all the books I was interested in and search for them in the library. It wasn’t long after I began to create my own stories.

I quickly fell in love with entertaining others with my words. As I matured the nature of my tales also matured. In 2008, I took the plunge and published my first novel, Chante’s Song, which I began writing in the mid to late nineties.

I write about love and loss. I know that sounds so black and white, but my writing ability allows me to create shades of grey within the pages that leave readers wanting to turn the page for more. I write stories that everyday women can relate to with lots of glitz and glam. Writing for me is escaping into La La Land, where I am the main character. I do things that Donneil would never do.

My inspiration came from life experiences, and being a lover of love, despite love not always love us back. My stories offer hope.

Novels should be entertaining. I try my best to entertain you with realistic topics and characters that you will either love or hate. The older I get, I choose to create characters that mimic my demographic (40+ year-old women) going through 40+ year-old women’s problems.

I have lots of story ideas dancing around in my head. I can’t wait to share them with an audience of contemporary women’s fiction and romance lovers who fancy a tad bit of drama with a heavy sprinkle of spice between the pages of a great book. I’d like to think of my genre as sexy urban contemporary. Yes, I just made that genre up. Readers are fans of all of those genres, and I bring them all together, so it’s hard to put me in one box.

I want readers to walk away entertained, or in some cases, my villain may leave them shaking their heads, nonetheless. I want them to enjoy my creative efforts and recommend my books to their friends.

As long as readers will read, I will write. Visit my website  www.donneildjackson.com and join my mailing list. Kick off your shoes, get comfortable, and escape into one of my books. You will enjoy!
