Fitter Than Ever at 50 and Beyond is a proven recipe for transitioning to a new healthier lifestyle. My book shouldn’t be confused with a diet book because this isn’t a formula you try out to lose weight before you return to your previous bad eating habits (and gain all the weight back). This book is about learning to live healthy and then pursuing these healthier habits the rest of your life! This enables you to springboard off of the benefits you glean in the early months instead of letting them slip away.
It took me more than a decade to develop the content for this book —reading research, collecting anecdotal data from clients, coming up with a procedure to follow, and finding the best way to share my own personal struggles with weight and body image. I published another book, FIttter Than Ever at 40 and Beyond, in 2017. My new book contains all the information in my previous work plus newly updated information on devices and apps and several new chapters. I worked in the spa and active adult setting as a fitness professional for more than 30 years and have a passion for helping people transform their lives. Writing this book and sharing it with the world is a dream come true for me!
Fitter Than Ever addresses lifestyle, physical, and emotional changes we face in our 50s. Readers learn how to start an effective and safe exercise program, transition to healthier eating habits, and use mindful activities such as yoga and meditation to establish a healthier relationship with their bodies. Appropriate training heart rate ranges, sample strength training and interval training programs, goal setting, food tracking, detailed nutritional information, and recipes are all included in this book.
Readers will engage in modes of exercise they enjoy and use that as a tool to boost energy level and mood, and to improve cardiovascular fitness and muscle tone. They will learn to savor nutritious foods that reduce cravings and boost mental focus and overall health. Combined with mindful practice, the Fitter Than Ever exercise and eating program enables readers to live an empowered, healthy, and joyful life. 25 Slim for Life tips included make losing weight and staying slim easy instead of a chore.
I plan to offer workshops to small groups of readers in person or on video conference to help them to start tracking diet, embarking on a regular exercise program, goal setting, and implementing all my other transformative techniques into their lives. I will also offer one-on-one coaching when requested. Sometime, having a person to keep one accountable goes a long way. That is the reason many people hired me when I was a personal trainer.
I retired from my full-time work as a trainer and instructor in 2017 and my husband and I now live most of the year in San Carlos, Mexico. I continue to teach yoga and am a RYT-200 Yoga Alliance certified Ashtanga Yoga instructor. I also volunteer with a marine wildlife rescue group and swim in the Sea of Cortez daily – often with a friendly pod of bottlenose dolphins.
