Feature Article: Mindfulness and Awakening

I have always been fascinated by the mysteries of the universe. I may not hear or see intangible things as some gifted people would, but somehow I had that strong connection to the world. Even if I came from a religious background, it would make me question the other facets of the unknown. How come topics about different dimensions, reincarnation, mysticism, akashic records, or ancient knowledge exist?

Resources like Pony Ride to an Awakening: The Journey of a Mystic and stories about the Mayan civilization made me question what else is out there. Of course, it prompted me to dive a bit deeper into spirituality. I joined several workshops in line with the esoteric – meditation, kundalini yoga, and sound healing. Although they were taboo according to my religious upbringing, I felt a sense of peace and belongingness. There was this connection and understanding that I felt with everything around me.

Little did I know that I was already experiencing a phenomenon known as a spiritual awakening. I was experiencing this yearning to know more about myself, my soul, my existence – Why I exist? Religious practices and ceremonies became insignificant, as I wanted to be in tune with more than just rituals. Although I still have the utmost respect for the faith I welcomed during my early years, this sense of connection I feel within myself and others answer most of my previous confusions about the world.

The mystical universe has always existed along with the rise of many religious revolutions. Yoga, a practice that people thought originated in India, has its origins in the Egyptian culture. The pyramids’ enigma has yet to unfold as there are still unsolved questions about their existence along with their shamanistic practices. All the while, I thought shamans were a thing of the past until I’ve met a couple of them.

Let’s first define spiritual awakening. It’s the process of becoming an observer where you were once just letting things flow your way. You suddenly feel your link to all matter. Others feel something in the physical – like tingling in the lower spine – simultaneously to the increasing awareness in the metaphysical plane. Awakening or “nirvana” knows no age. It may happen during your teen years or twilight days.

When the moon is in the Seventh House

And Jupiter aligns with Mars

Then peace will guide the planets

And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius

We are now living in the Age of Aquarius – a time when humanity takes control of its destiny. What should we expect then, as more and more lightworkers become aware of their purpose in the world? What’s in store for humankind? Will we go through it without getting overwhelmed with the process?

These are exciting times, for we are no longer blinded by tradition. Our senses are heightened and more in-tune with our angels and spirit guides. We may fill the birth pains, and even the planet feels this change.

Here are some of the ways that we can hasten our spiritual transformation:

  1. Be close to nature – devote some time for “grounding” and feel the soil and natural water.
  2. Meditate – allot 5-10 minutes of quiet time daily.
  3. Practice gratitude – be thankful for the big and little things in your life.
  4. Try journaling – jot down your observations and insights about your day.

Our spiritual journey has just begun, and there are a lot of beautiful gifts in-store as you open up your heart and get to know yourself more. Do not be frightened with the process, but instead embrace your newfound destiny in the universe.
