Hello, My name is Megan Senior. I am the Author of Escaping the Shadows, which can be found on Amazon. I am a 45 yr old, happily married mother of 4 beautiful children. I was also blessed with 3 beautiful step children and 3 handsome grandson’s.
The struggles that I have been through are what made me who I am today. Maybe due to trauma, there is a lot that I can not remember, mostly from under 10yrs old. (Some symptoms of trauma can include exhaustion, confusion, sadness, anxiety, agitation, numbness, dissociation, confusion, physical arousal, and blunted affect. Most responses are normal in that they affect most survivors and are socially acceptable, psychologically effective, and self-limited.)
My husband and children are the ones who pushed me to write my story.
They said that I could definitely inspire someone else, whether it is to reach out for help, or help someone in need. Please know that there IS help out there, you just have to want it. Being an addict will not only tear apart their life apart, but also the family. The family goes through all of the ups and downs with the addict. Everyone feels the pain and suffering due to addiction. So many parents have had to bury their children because of addiction, children have had to bury their parents because of addiction, the list goes on, because it hurts everyone around them.
I was around alcohol and drugs for as long as I can remember. I wrote my book to spread some awareness about addiction and some of the things I went through.
If I can help at least one soul, then I will be happy. I would love to help everyone, but you can NOT be helped unless you WANT help. Addiction is very rampant in life. It hurts me to see anyone on them, especially the younger kids, who still have their whole lives ahead of them. I do not believe that a person just wakes up one morning and decides they are going to be an addict. There are many factors to becoming an addict. My mom, grandparents didn’t choose to become addicts, but unfortunately it happened and drugs/alcohol had a hold on them. They were unable to shake the addiction for good. Some people beat addiction and HURRAY for them. Some lose their battle and that is very sad and traumatic.
The target audience for my book Escaping the Shadows is 15 yr to 85 yr olds.
I hope hearing about some of the things I have gone through, will push people to ask for help, so their child/children don’t have to endure the pain/agony that I did, or anyone else who has had addiction in their life. I, in no way want sympathy, I just want to make others aware that there is HELP out there, but again, you can not get it unless you want it.
I am always here to lend an ear to anyone who needs it. I’d love to add to my story later in life, because my story isn’t over!! God isn’t done with me yet. He has more work for me to do. I always wanted to be an Alateen counselor, but I never went to school for it. For the last 5 yrs I have worked in Special Ed (which is so rewarding in so many ways). I absolutely love what I do. Some of their stories break my heart because some of them live through the terror that I did when I was their age. Some of them come to school to get the attention that they long for. If you take the time to read my story, please take the time to leave a review and let me know how it made you feel while reading it! I’d appreciate it! Thank you so much for your time, and God Bless!
