What is ‘Epidemic’ about?

Billy Bright is not a brutal man, but there is no doubt he is capable of brutal things! Billy is ambitious and he’s also a top criminal. He makes the acquaintance of a French aristocrat who possesses drawings of a nearly completed WWII tunnel; Billy intends to excavate the tunnel starting in England but he didn’t bank on millions of blind, giant rats being released; rats that are carrying an HIV virus.

The Prime Minister has lost control and an epidemic is declared. As the bodies mount up, Martial Law comes into effect while specialists try to come up with a vaccine. But that’s not all Britain has to cope with. France and the EU are threatening to put the UK into an economic lockdown and the Americans, lead by a president who has become unhinged, tells the EU to ‘nuke’ England. There can only be one outcome – a nuclear submarine is on standby. Is this the end of the United Kingdom?

Epidemic is a great read and very close to home right now in some respects – perhaps with the exception of the blind giant rats. The nuclear submarine? Who knows? Anyway, this is a story that will grab the reader from the first page, an incredibly descriptive story that lands you right in the middle of the action. It is tense at times and exceptionally graphic in places, particularly in death descriptions so it isn’t really recommended for under 18s. It is a unique plot, with plenty of action and lots of twists and turns along the way. The ending? Not saying a word – just read it and find out for yourselves. The characters are well developed, likable, and relatable with great stories of their own. Overall, a truly gripping read that will suit anyone interested in current events and a thriller with a twist or two along the way and a definite sting in the tail.

What inspired you to write ‘Epidemic’?

With over a dozen well received full length novels, an acclaimed biography and a popular collection of writer’s reference books now in print I tend to tell stories by drawing on my own personal experiences, often characterizing people I have truly known. With a common interest in the events of WWII, an author friend and I were discussing the subject one day when the idea of a tunnel between occupied France and England came up. Unfortunately, some weeks later my friend passed away and so the writing of ‘Epidemic’ became my particular link to his extraordinary life and something I really had to do.

What is the target audience for ‘Epidemic’?

Epidemic’ is aimed at a more mature readership, those interested in the mind set of politicians when things go wrong and what an experienced well trained military might do when asked to ‘step up’ to this particular plate! Authors Lounge readers will hopefully find ‘Epidemic’ a great fit with their own personal library of action/adventure/horror collections.

What are your future plans for ‘Epidemic’?

There are no plans to follow up ‘Epidemic’ with a sequel. I regard it as a single, impactful story told with depth and to a point where a second novel, picking up on some of the same characters, would be difficult to produce with any level of authenticity. The book is currently published in EBook and Paperback format and available on line worldwide.

Can you tell us more about yourself as an established author?

I was born in the UK to British parents and after serving time in the military took on several jobs as a contract engineer requiring me to travel extensively across Eastern, Western Europe and Africa. In the early 70’s, I headed for Dubai. During this period opportunities arose for travel to Asia, the Far East and United States in search of new business for my engineering and construction company. After returning to the UK in the late 90’s, still restless, I spent some ‘writing time’ in Spain, a decision that served me well. Producing work in a wide variety of genre such as Thrillers, Action & Adventure, Historical Fiction, Biographies and Satirical Fiction, I regard myself as an experimenter with words and presentation, and with more than twenty books in print I consider myself to now be a full time professional writer.
