Broken Petals by Tasha Hutchison

What is your book all about?

Broken Petals is a women’s fiction book about a thirty-ish woman, Brooklyn Monti. She is doing her best to navigate through life with Huntington’s disease. She has a best friend who won’t allow her to wallow for too long. Her best friend constantly reminds Brooklyn that she is worthy of pursuing her life desires, but she must make an effort to go about it without thoughts of fear holding her back.

What inspired you to write the book?

I watch medical TV shows, and I learned about Huntington’s disease. I began researching and thought how interesting it would be to simplify it into a single character to go on a journey of her daily life, romance, career, and creating a family.

What is your target audience for the book?

My goal is to target readers of every gender who enjoy a journey of self-discovery. I wrote Broken Petals intentionally to draw my readers into the story with a purpose.

What do you hope readers could get out from your book?

My main character suffers from Huntington’s disease. It’s like a ticking time bomb, and she has no idea when that bomb will detonate. So she has to make a decision. Will she allow it to define her life and live in fear, or will she go after her life’s desires—love, children, dream career, etc.? So when Brooklyn goes on this journey of self-discovery, it was my goal to give my readers hope. My readers could be facing obstacles big or small in life, but those obstacles should not define or stifle you as a person. You have to decide to push through because no matter what, there is always HOPE.

What are your future goals/plans for the book?

My publisher works with a company that pitches books for movie/limited series adaptations. I have completed the media package, and now I’m praying and manifesting a limited series for Broken Petals. I wrote it with the five senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. With Broken Petals, you will use your five senses throughout the book to heighten your reading pleasure which should translate well as a visual piece. So, whoever reads this, I need all your positive energy and thoughts. The opportunity to touch millions of people with such a positive story, wow, that’s a true dream.

And something more about yourself.

I love to take my readers on a journey so that by the time they get to the end of the story, they will feel a sense of hope. The world is going through so much turmoil. In 2020 we lost so many loved ones. I know this personally. I wrote Broken Petals during the pandemic. I needed an escape, and I found that with writing.

I wrote Broken Petals to give my readers a sense of hope. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster where you will experience all the feels. But, in the end, you will be left with a sense of HOPE. When I’m not writing, I operate Wordy Writer, LLC. They are organizers to help authors with their writing journey. I discovered my love for books at a young age when I would read with my mom before bedtime. But when I became a teenager, I was a little drama queen. So, to refocus my dramatics more creatively, my mom used writing as a tool. So, whenever I acted out, she would send me to my room to write short stories. Eventually, writing became my passion. Like eating and breathing, it’s something integral to my existence.

Great interview. This sounds like it will pull at the heartstrings.
