Grandpa Nick’s Bump is a unique children’s book by first-time author Lynda Daniele.

People have different ways to cope up with the loss of a loved one. Some engage in activities that the dead person used to love doing. Some go to places where they used to visit. Some pay tribute to their lost loved ones by creating something to remember that person by. In literature, memoirs, poetry, and biographies are some of the most common forms of remembering a dead person. For the widow, Lynda Daniele, writing a children’s book that depicts her late husband’s life is one way to honor his loving memory. Her debut work Grandpa Nick’s Bump is dedicated to her husband Nick. Let’s take a closer look.

Grandpa Nick’s Bump

Grandpa Nick’s Bump is a children’s storybook about a character named Grandpa Nick. Grandpa Nick is the author’s late husband who had a meningioma, a rather large tumor. Grandpa Nick was a very nice man and was known all over the neighborhood. Before his demise, a couple of neighborhood children had asked Nick to be their grandfather. Kind and generous, Grandpa Nick agreed to be their grandfather and for four months, Grandpa Nicks stood as a grandfather to these four young children until the time of his death.

Lynda Daniele’s Grandpa Nick’s Bump is based on the story of her late husband, Nick, and how they struggled and cope up with the later’s deteriorating condition of meningioma. The book focused on Nick’s last remaining months particularly on his role as a grandfather to four neighborhood kids. Despite suffering from a huge tumor on the side of his head, good old Grandpa Nick performed his duty as a loving neighbor and grandfather to these kids, creating joyous and unforgettable memories with the kids. These moments made Grandpa Nick happy until the very end.

Grandpa Nick’s Bump is a heart-warming children’s book about the relationship between a dying old man and the children he made happy with his remaining time. It tells us the value of caring for others and looking after those we love. Despite being a children’s book, Lynda Daniele’s work is a story that deals with several serious themes such as loss, grief, and death. Nonetheless, Grandpa Nick’s Bump is a book that celebrates love, sympathy, kindness, and above all happy memories.

Grandpa Nick’s Bump is a book that young readers will enjoy because of the story and the illustrations featured in the book. It is not the usual narrative that we encounter in children’s books but the lessons shared in Lynda Daniele’s books are very significant. Also, Grandpa Nick’s Bump is something that adult readers will certainly enjoy as well. Overall, it is a delightful and meaningful book that everyone can enjoy and absorb.
