Closer to Home is a science-fiction novel with elements of divine intervention by Gina Venable. It was released in 2020. The story centers on the wishes of a remorseful God who wants to correct his mistakes. The Almighty then enlist the help of two unlikely heroes.

 Closer to Home is a story about a woman, Kat, and a man, Sam, who have both endured near-fatal accidents. They are both in surgery and hovering somewhere between life and death when the story begins. Kat faces what she thinks will be her last judgment only to find out she’s been placed in a situation where she either accomplishes four missions for a mysterious higher power or face an eternity in limbo. The missions are to reverse four mistakes made by the higher power who can’t reverse them Himself because of His image of perfection. Sam joins her, and if the missions are successful, the end results will revolutionize politics, social welfare, social and racial justice, and nearly deplete homelessness and juvenile violence. Closer to Home offers a refreshing narrative. It’s been a while since we’ve encountered a narrative a bit similar to Venable’s. Fans of sci-fi blended with religious themes and time travel adventure will certainly appreciate this magnificent work. Closer to Home by Gina Venable is a book worth checking out.

About the Author

Author Gina Venable is a born and bred Hoosier. She grew up in Northwest Indiana and chose to live in a small Indiana town that is peaceful and quiet. It is a haven for wildlife with the woods behind her house. For Gina, peace and quiet and nature are essential because of the chaos in the world. Gina worked as a mental health therapist for thirty-four years. Although she can’t change the world and the past, Gina writes about a future she would like to see. After retiring from the mental health services, Gina thought of creating that world with her writing. As an animal and nature lover, she firmly believes that all living things are God’s creations and that all forms of life should be respected. Now that she is retired from clinical work, Gina assists a local food bank in programs that distribute food to local communities. She is an AmeriCorps Service member and a loyal Chicago Cubs fan. Gina’s mother was a Cubs fan. When she passed away, Gina picked up the torch. As of this writing, Gina is hopeful that the fans will enjoy her book. A sequel is currently in the works.
