Atlantis Magister

Atlantis Magister

The novel Atlantis Magister, the first volume of the London Oniric Exchange trilogy, may belong within the nebulous and fantasy tradition of dystopia, although some of the arguments I have addressed in the narrative plot may be or become reality.

I’ve been working on this novel for several years, and some of the settings and events are inspired by my own life adventurously divided between three countries with fantastic history, traditions, and folklore: Romania, Italy, and England.

Thanks to my studies in political philosophy at Al. I. Cuza University in Iasi, Romania, where I graduated with a dissertation entitled Metaphysics and Nihilism, I must admit that the novel has a strong existentialist tinge. Also in the economy of the novel the crisis, the dissolution and absurdity of post-modern origin and the anguish in front of the possibilities with which post-humanism threatens us are more than evident.

The mysticism, the depiction of occultists mixing fanaticism with the worship of cyber-punk surrogates, the Vatican murders, and the fervor and thirst for immortality with which the characters in the novel are imbued are surely inspired by my abrupt period of study of the Oriental philosophy module attending Sapienza University in Rome, Italy.

Because I also studied film directing, the narratological approach is an experimentalist, trying to give a cinematic dimension by mixing various styles.

The main character, Scott Lloyd, is a former London stockbroker who inadvertently becomes a secret agent for a reformed superstate intelligence organization in the near future. He is by no means the classic spy we have become accustomed to in genre literature, but something above our imagination, as the story’s ending will reveal.

His mission, in addition to his primary one of overseeing the security of the London Stock Exchange Tower, is to discover the possessors of a strange bionic aggregate created by the secret organisation of the Honourables. It had been sold online and then withdrawn from the market because of its harmful effects.

Scott Lloyd has very intense and strange dreams that set up a parallel narrative structure in which the dreamlike intertwines with reality. Later, he discovers that the dreams are hypnopedia and that he is being fed information from an apocalyptic future to save humanity from extinction.

Scott and his new fiancée, a maverick journalist and double agent – whom he thought had been kidnapped and murdered – manage to foil a terrible plot against Earth hatched by the Era9Kos organization, a structure at the top of the financial pyramid.

The danger comes from an artificial satellite of Earth, Antichton, created from time immemorial by technologically advanced humanoid ancestors.

Finding the secrets and artifacts left behind by this species is the dynamic agent of the novel, with the heroes making adventurous investigations to London, Rome, and even Transylvania to find them.

Ramses, the founder of the Pharaonic dynasty, emigrated to Egypt from the shores of Scotland. Can the remains of Atlantis be found northwest of England in Doggerland? Did the disaster of Atlantis happen at sea or in outer space? It seems that Plato in his myth of Atlantis encoded a message that is also found in the Brahmin writing, the Atharva-Veda. Was the Count of Saint-Germain (the Immortal, possessor of the Philosopher’s Stone) a native of Transylvania? Did the Nazi Occult Office discover the entrance to the Asgard World Centre? Was there a humanoid species that evolved in parallel with Homo Sapiens Sapiens, developing a resonance-based civilization that later moved to Anti-Earth, an artificial satellite of our planet? Do we live on Earth or Anti-Earth? What is the reality or the dream we are living?

All these questions must be answered by Scott Lloyd, a former hacker, and stockbroker, alongside journalists, artists, archaeologists, brokers, and secret agents in a race against time with only one stake: survival.
