What is your book all about?

An Extinction Of Darkness” is a romance novel based in Houston, Texas at the University of Houston. This dual point of view story follows Lyla Fischer, a grad student in her last semester working as a TA, and Professor Tyson Moxley, a law professor known for his attention to detail and overall bad moods. Lyla and Tyson bring out the worst in each other, unable to get along when they start working together leading to increased tension during their hours together. While Lyla is determined to make it through the year as the first TA that hasn’t quit on him yet, Tyson starts to see her as more than just another student trying to slide by before graduation. Ultimately, the two are able to see the sides of the other that they have both tried to keep hidden from the rest of the world- thus leading to a new bond between them. An Extinction of Darkness is for modern readers who are into romantic stories.

What inspired you to write the book?

I love storylines with forbidden romance and age gap tropes, plus a grumpy turned sunshine hero can melt anyone’s heart. When trying my hand at writing a storyline with all of my favorite pieces put together, in my favorite city in the United States, their story really managed to come together on its own and blew even me away when it came together. When I’m reading books on my own, I’ve always loved the dual point of view because I like to be able to get into both sides of the story, really dive into what the other person is thinking at that time. I think that romance novels have gotten a bit of a bad reputation over the years and I wanted to bring the fun back into the genre in my own way. You get the chance to feel the pain these characters have gone through in their life and in what ways their past has shaped their future. Whether you connect with either of the main characters or one of the side characters, there is someone to fit everyone.

What is your target audience for the book?

Given the highly detailed, intimate scenes within this novel I suggest that only mature audiences read it. That being said, my readers have had an age range from new adults all the way to seniors entranced by the storyline. While most romance writers tend to write to please women, I haven’t found that the book is only preferred by females. There have been plenty of male readers that have praised the story as well, so if you’re a male reading this and thinking it’s a story you could enjoy- try it out!

What do you hope readers could get out from your book?

I hope that Lyla and Tyson are able to give readers hope. Whether that hope comes from finding love after a heartbreak, hope towards finding the right person, hope for a future you have worked hard for, or just hope that you can be the light in a time of someone else’s darkness. For those readers that have visited any of the Houston sites that are mentioned throughout the story, I hope that they are able to visualize themselves in those places again.

What are your future goals/plans for the book?

I plan to turn this story and each of the characters into an intertwining series. They will each have their own main story, but everyone will make an appearance throughout the other stories as well so that you are able to keep up with your favorites as you keep reading.

And something more about yourself.

When I’m not at home writing in my corner nook, I’m being a mom to two little kids and working full time outside of the home. I have been writing since I was a young teenager. Becoming a published author has always been my goal in life and it feels absolutely surreal that I have accomplished it and that there are people out there buying and reading this story that I created. Plus, not only are they reading it but they are loving it and they are invested in these characters just as much as I am. I am so thankful and gracious that Authors Lounge is giving me the chance to talk about my debut novel and I can’t wait to continue to write books with other characters for people to fall in love with.
