A Bruised Nothing

A Bruised Nothing

Hello readers! Thanks for checking out my article and book.

I hope you enjoy! My book, A Bruised Nothing, tells the story of Nidhi Anvar. Nidhi is a young wife and mother from New Delhi, India. Her husband, Ahmed, takes a job promotion, moving them across the world to Toronto, Canada. Nidhi is reluctant to leave her tight-knit family and worries that she will feel alone in a new country. Once her family arrives in Canada,

Nidhi is homesick and struggles to adjust, as she has a hard time speaking and reading English. Ahmed is busy with work, leaving her at home with their young children during the day. Nidhi becomes so homesick that she makes a terrible mistake, causing Ahmed to become furious to the point that he assaults her.

Unfortunately, what Nidhi thought was a one-time incident morphs into years of beatings, bruises, pain, and shame. Nidhi tries her hardest to protect herself and, more importantly, her children from her husband’s wrath. One night, Ahmed injures her so severely that Nidhi cannot keep her husband’s secrets any longer, leaving her with a critical decision to make in order to somehow free herself from her abusive marriage. A Bruised Nothing is a story of survival, a mother’s love, and trying to find hope and happiness even amidst tragedy and pain.

I came up with the storyline and characters for A Bruised Nothing more ten years ago, sitting in my basement on a hot summer day at age thirteen.

I was always a writer and storyteller from a young age. I wrote my first story about a pair of naughty sisters in first grade, and my grandparents still have the original copy! After that, I started writing short stories in paper notebooks. Eventually, as I grew older, I wanted to write something more meaningful with the hopes of being a teenage author. I spent hours’ hand-writing the first draft of A Bruised Nothing in a thick white notebook.

I remember the feeling of great satisfaction and pride when I finished it. After I wrote A Bruised Nothing, that quickly spiraled into finishing over twenty novels, many of which I would love to publish eventually. For ten years, A Bruised Nothing sat in the notebook until one day, I randomly decided to edit it. So, I took the draft of what I had already written and made a few plot and character adjustments, but most of the story is original to what I wrote at age thirteen. Just like when I was a child, I still immerse myself in reading and writing after a difficult day or just for fun.

My main audience for my book is most likely women my age who love to read about strong female characters who must overcome major obstacles. As women, we typically enjoy reading about relatable characters who have struggles and problems just as we do. I have always loved reading about women all over the world, so I would love to get A Bruised Nothing into the hands of people who feel the same way.

I hope my readers will enjoy the story and consider donating to charities that help domestic abuse survivors. There are so many resources and organizations that want to help those who have walked through horrific abuse and are learning to live again. I hope that A Bruised Nothing can inspire people trapped in abusive relationships to understand the seriousness of what they are going through and that they deserve to leave and live their lives freely.

What’s in the future for A Bruised Nothing? I am just glad that I was able to publish it, and thanks to places like Facebook, Instagram, and Authors’ Lounge, I am able to market it to potential readers. I hope that as many people as possible will read and enjoy it.

Obviously, I would love to become a bestseller, but that’s every writer’s goal. Right now, I’m thankful for everyone who reads and leaves a positive review or who passes along the link. A dream of mine would be to be featured in Reese’s Book Club since this is the type of novel that she typically features in her monthly picks.

To conclude, here are a few facts about me! I am a kindergarten teacher. I adore my students and enjoy watching them learn and grow both socially and academically. Besides being a teacher during the day, I spend most of my free time and evenings reading or writing. My Kindle is one of my favorite possessions, as it’s a virtual library full of thousands of great books.

I’ve had the pleasure of reading several fellow authors’ books lately, which has been amazing. Writing and reading have always been relaxing to me, so I try to engage with my hobbies as often as possible. I love to cook and bake, and my newest hobby is making homemade bread. My husband and I like to visit new places locally and abroad. We are huge history buffs and view museums as the best date night activity. I have two goofy, sweet dogs, and they keep me on my toes with all of their antics.
