WELLNESS OF SOUL AND ITS PERKS

Why your soul matters?

Readers Magnet | How do you take care of yourself? Well, you are advised to eat fruits and vegetables, grains and nuts, some seafood and meat to gain the highest nutrition for your body. You should exercise regularly and get enough sleep. You are also to avoid smoking, alcohol, and drugs.

But what do you do to take care of your soul? Do you even think about that part of you? Unlike your stomach that growls when you’re hungry, your muscles that get stiff if you sit too long, and your eyelids that droop when you’re tired or sleepy, your soul keeps quiet. It never screams in pain or groans when it has a fever. Why does your soul matter? What is a soul, anyway?

The soul, according to the Lexico online dictionary, is “the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal.” Cambridge Dictionary defines the soul as “the part of a person that some people believe continues to exist in some form after the body has died .” From Merriam-Webster dictionary, the soul is “the spiritual principle embodied in human beings, all rational and spiritual beings, or the universe .” In simple terms, the soul is the spiritual aspect of a human being.

In Scripture, there are many passages which prove the soul is different from the body and that the soul will separate from the body at the moment of death. Jesus Christ has this to say, “ Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can des troy both soul and body in hell” ( Matthew 10:28).

The soul is sometimes understood as itself the whole life-being, taken as if it is the source of life, and it is also the life of the body. A little child who died was prayed over by the Prophet Elijah who petitioned God, “ O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again” (1 Kings 17:21). And also in the following passages: “To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine ” ( Psalm 33:19).

The soul may be understood as the whole person. The Prophet Ezekiel said, “The soul that sins shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20). Even though the soul of a person is just a part of a person, it is meant here as the whole person. There is a figure of speech called synecdoche. It means that a part is taken for the whole, or the whole is taken for the part.

Now, how do you care for your soul? And why is a healthy soul necessary?

John Ortberg, the author of the book Soul Keeping: Caring for the Most Important Part of You , said it best, “Your soul is the deepest thing about you. Jesus said that the soul is more valuable than the world. So why would we not value it? Two things are true: 1) You have a soul, 2) It is the only one you will ever have.” Ortberg ’s statement is supported by the passage recorded in Matthew 16:26, the Message Version : “What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?

A healthy soul will enable you to worship God genuinely and faithfully, to truly love and serve him, as well as the people in your When your soul is weak, evil will overpower you. If you disconnect yourself from God, you connect yourself to the world, which tricks and cares will drive you to disengage from goodness. You will absorb yourself into things that pass: wealth, power, possessions, and status. You may become self- centered, self-absorbed and self-obsessed. You may feel lost and empty inside.

By keeping your soul healthy – by inviting God in your life to cleanse and renew your soul, spending more quality time listening for the Holy Spirit’s still, small Voice, and daily reading inspirational literature including Holy Writ – you will have access to divine power and guidance. A healthy soul is your investment in your eternity, which is your real home, destination, and the very place that the Risen Christ is preparing for you to
join Him.

Your soul is your most valuable possession. Re-connect with God. Feed your soul with healthy, positive, lifegiving, and inspiring nourishment. Invite Jesus into your heart and begin living, for Christ sake. Learn to experience the Way of Christ in this life. Study to show yourself approved unto God. Read about the ministry  of Jesus as recorded in the New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Digest the Eternal Word as expressed in the book of John. Allow the Holy Spirit to WOO and WOW your soul. En-joy eternal life in the NOW. Begin memorizing affirming scripture, Scripture that lifts you and the works of Jesus. For example, Hebrews 11:1-3 The Voice (VOICE) reads: 1 “Faith is the assurance of things you have hoped for, the absolute conviction that there are realities you’ve never seen. 2 It was by faith that our forebears were approved.
3″Through faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God; everything we now see was fashioned from that which is invisible.”

Remain in awe of the Almighty and your soul will sing new songs about Light, Love, and Life eternal.

Finally! It’s always take care of yourself physically and mentally. Nobody mentions taking care of the soul or spiritual health.

I agree and believe the first step to physical and mental health is by having a healthy soul.
