The Boy Who Turns Into a Truck – Children’s Book Series

I want to start by thanking Chloe for reaching out to me to write this article about my children’s book series: The Boy Who Turns Into a Truck. I am thrilled to be a part of the Readers Magnit/Author’s Lounge family.

What is your book about?

The Boy Who Turns Into a Truck is a series that follows a young boy named Austin who absolutely LOVES trucks. Every night when he dreams, he magically transforms into a truck! There are three books published currently where he has been a Fire Truck, Crane Truck, and a Dump Truck. Throughout each story, he gets to experience what it’s like to be that truck and needs to get creative in order to help solve big problems other characters are experiencing.

What inspired you to write the book?

I personally am a huge book lover. My favorites genres tend to be anything where I’m transported to different worlds, realms, or time. For this particular series, my son is really the one who gave me the idea. One night while getting ready for bed, we were coming up with various silly ideas about what he should try to dream about. Before you know it, The Boy Who Turns Into a Truck was born! My son’s love of trucks is unparalleled. He absolutely loves these books and I think if he could go on a truck adventure each night, he definitely would!

Who is your target audience for the book?

Any child who has a passion for magic, adventure, and of course – a love of trucks! While the story lines themselves are for slightly younger kiddos, I do believe these books are excellent for a beginning reader as well.

What do you hope readers get out of your book?

I hope readers are inspired by Austin’s adventures and experience joy while reading them! I want kids to realize how fun it is to dream and pretend. These books can also encourage young readers to understand the importance of helping others to solve problems when they are able.

What are your future goals/plans for the book?

This series will eventually be a set of 5 books! I intend to add two more books – one where Austin turns into a Garbage Truck and currently debating between a Tow Truck or Cement Truck for the final book! I’m excited to write these stories and watch the adventures that will unfold for Austin along the way.

After the truck book series is completed, my daughter has requested that I write another 5-book series that follows a girl who transforms into various mythical creatures each night to save the day. So far, we’ve come up with Mermaid, Dragon, Fairy, Wizard and Unicorn.

About the Author

Heidi Sharrard, a California native and gymnast in her younger years, has always been tenacious by nature. So naturally, when her husband casually suggested she should write books, she decided to do just that.

When not attempting to write children’s books, Heidi spends her rare moments of free time binge watching historical dramas, traveling, sharing her favorite memes, and planning extravagant vacations that she may or may not ever take.

She now lives in Michigan with her husband and their two crazy, beautiful, incredible young children – who inspire each and every page of her books.
