Whether on fundamental human rights, racial discrimination, or poverty, society is characterized by numerous inequality trends that become more pronounced due to the system’s inability to listen. Christians advocating for these matter bears a significant weight toward making a difference.

Have you ever looked at somebody and realized how far apart your circumstances are?

Regardless of how much people have fought to achieve equality, gaps exist among people across different aspects of life. From relatively minute matters like unfair job opportunities to more consequential ones like poverty, homelessness, and racism, a significant portion of the population suffers daily. You may even suffer from something you consider trivial, hence paying little attention to it. But what you deem superficial may be weighed differently by others.

These inequalities have constantly persevered. However, it’s not like these individuals aren’t doing anything to improve their situations. When you’re having a hard time, you don’t simply wait for others to help. Instead, you’ll figure out a way to improve your circumstances. The only difference is that you may have access to resources and materials, which some don’t. For these people, asking for help is like screaming underwater. They may give it their all to have a voice, but their efforts are futile.

Being the Voice for the Voiceless

Without anyone taking a step and reaching out to help, more and more people will continue to suffer, pushing them to the brink of hopelessness. And once these individuals cultivate this headspace, it can be tricky to make them believe in the beauty of life again.

Fortunately, God doesn’t want that to happen. He has always been there to look over everyone, ensuring they have redemption from any nuisance and trouble life gives. God has sent people for the sole purpose of speaking up for these people. In God’s perfect salvation plan by Yelena Borichevska, the author mentions that God has imparted the desire to become a resource, advocate, and helper to people. This means it’s natural for people to help others out whenever necessary. It’s innate for people to be kind and helpful to each other because that’s how God wanted them to be.

This is also why society has progressed so that advocacies now exist. When the minorities’ voices have gone hoarse due to constantly fighting for a way where they’re seemingly at the losing end, they can depend on others willing to stand for them. Christians advocating for matters even though they aren’t directly affected means speaking up for others and supporting them so they can be listened to. This ensures wishes and feelings are taken seriously and equally.

The Importance of Christians Advocating

It’s beneficial that churches and religious organizations have constituted and cultivated a system of compassion and mercy. Due to this, Christians have grown to be more empathetic of others, increasing their proactivity in helping others. Whether it’s about improving earners’ wages or eliminating racial aggression, Christians advocating plays a major role in enforcing societal changes. Communities will foster a stronger attachment and understanding of these matters through their efforts and voices.

Often, the reason why equality isn’t attained isn’t necessarily because people choose to be mum and deaf to these problems. Instead, it’s because the sentiment hasn’t reached their ears. More Christians advocating these problems for people who can’t express their sides would expose the general public to such issues. The more people raise their voices, the higher the chances governments have to examine and adjust public policies. While advocating about these matters doesn’t directly change things, it’s a significant step toward making a difference.

According to Micah 6:8, people must stand with justice and love kindness to walk humbly with God. This adds urgency and importance to Christians advocating for their Christian purpose of service and advocacy, using their gifts to serve God and their neighbors. With churches significantly contributing to communities through sermons and charities, they may have an equally significant influence on the people. Thus, they can oversee and do something whenever the people they minister are adversely affected by their government and society.
