Can Science Mix With Religion?

Gary Lindberg’s books about God’s existence scientifically prove God’s existence through various sciences. However, his method isn’t purely through scientific observations and experimentation. Hence, this may not be enough to encompass the connection between religion and science fully.

If two things in the world are the opposite, it would be science and religion. Science dwells in facts, conclusive and definite answers to universal curiosities. On the other hand, religion abides in mystery, the unthinkable, and miracles – things far from being absolute.

Despite this universally acknowledged idea, science was initially a Christian idea. Science stems from the Christian belief that the world was created by the logos or reason of God. This led to the understanding that the world can be studied, thus creating science as a system of knowledge.

However, as science continued to expand as a methodology, it encompassed the scientific method and naturalism. This philosophy is that reality is composed of matter, time, and energy; there is nothing spiritual, and certainly not God.

Bilateral Equations of Science’s Relationship With Religion

Science and religion dwell on different aspects of the world and human experience. Hence, there’s no need for both to be studied or observed under one scope.

However, with people’s need to define and explain the existence of things, the question of God’s existence has become a prevalent curiosity. The problem is no scientific method or experiment can prove or detect the presence of a God in particular. After all, God takes no form outside the idols people worship, and belief in him is measured by faith – the capability to sincerely believe and trust something based on spiritual apprehension rather than physical proof and manifestation. Hence, science can’t take any firm stance regarding religion and whether or not they support the belief in His existence.

Regardless of what science affirms, others believe that science is the perfect expression of God – or at least a divine creator. While this belief doesn’t necessarily come from scientists or the branch of knowledge, theories used to support this statement are purely scientific.

For instance, the Big Bang Theory may be decried by Christians. But this theory acknowledges that the universe did exist due to a more significant cause that transcends matter, space, and energy, making it one with an infinite nature. This theory is only one among the numerous pieces of scientific evidence demonstrating that the universe has an intelligent design by a transcendent creator.

On one side, science claims that it can’t prove nor disprove the existence of God. But on the other, people claim that science can provide an explanation and evidence of God’s presence, one of which is through nature and the universe’s existence.

Evidence of Science’s Connection With Religion Through literature

Various literary materials have posited that science has long explained this existence. Despite the division between science and religion in the modern-day setting, there has been evidence that connects these two systems.

Author Gary Lindberg publishes material in support of this. In Lindberg’s books about God’s existence, he attempts to scientifically prove that God exists by using various sciences to arrive at a conclusive truth. While his method toward this truth isn’t through scientific observations and experimentations, Lindberg manages to provide his influential theory about God’s existence. Through his discovery of Christian’s fear of the theory of evolution, he aims to connect religion and science.

Like any other explanation, this attempt gives light to God’s existence through the world’s marvels. However, a fundamental difference exists between science and religion; perhaps, regardless of what people do, these won’t mix. They can co-exist. But they’re based on different aspects of the world and life, so they may always be separate. Science is based on reason and observation, which can’t be distinguished from religion, which is based on faith – a trust in an unknown.
