Championing Diversity Through Storytelling
I am Renée Ecckles-Hardy, an award-winning author and the owner of Brown Butterfly Press, LLC, DBA Brown Butterfly Books. Since my debut in 2019, I have written and self-published nearly 40 books for children and adults. Focusing on themes of self-worth, confidence, and belonging. My stories primarily feature African American protagonists while also including characters of various backgrounds and abilities, sharing messages that resonate with all readers.

This book is a celebration of every twist, curl, puff, and wave, showing how big hair can be adventurous, playful, and a source of pride. It’s not just for girls—it’s for boys too, and for any child who can relate to having a head full of volume, no matter their background!

To expand the experience, I plan to create companion activities, including coloring pages, interactive read-aloud, and possibly even a plush character or toy that embodies the book’s fun spirit. In the future, I would love to explore other unique traits children have—whether it’s big laughs, freckles, or bold personalities!
