Feature Article: A Lovecraftian Christmas

There is nothing more exciting than reading Lovecraftian thrillers this Holiday season for Pulp Fiction Adventure fans.

The Holiday season is usually the time for Christmas stories, reunions, and other gatherings related to the Yuletide season, the most significant Christian festival. However, for fiction fantasy fans and fans of Pulp fiction and thriller genre, it’s also a time for catching up on recent book releases, book lover’s gatherings and exhibits, and all in all, celebrating a Lovecraftian Christmas.

Several years ago, we saw the rise of interest in Lovecraft, mainly because of recent television series influenced by or based on H.P. Lovecraft’s published works. These shows include Stranger Things, Night Gallery, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and of course, Lovecraft Country. In 2019, we saw the release of Cthulhu Christmas Greeting Cards, which we think are super cute. This Christmas, we can expect more from the Pulp Fiction and Lovecraft community, such as new books, comics, and other materials inspired by the famous Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

New and recently published pulp adventure, fantasy, and thrillers make perfect gifts this holiday season.

Christmas season is a time of gift-giving, and if you are looking for the perfect Christmas present for your Lovecraftian friends, we recommend new and recently published horror fantasy and pulp thrillers. The Old Man’s Request by Joab Stieglitz is perfect for those who want to embark on a fantasy adventure read this holiday. Since the book is part of a trilogy called The Utgarda trilogy, we recommend buying the two sequels- The Missing Medium and The Other Realm.

The Old Man's Request is the first book in the Utgarda series by Joab Stieglitz.

The Utgarda trilogy features a female lead character, a Russian anthropologist named Anna Rykov. Rykov is also the central character of another Stieglitz book series, The Thule trilogy. For fans of H.P. Lovecraft, we strongly recommend Joab Stieglitz’s book series.

This holiday season, we also recommend recently released Pulp fiction books and materials such as The Art of Pulp Horror: An Illustrated History (Jones, Stephenson), Flame and Crimson: A History of Sword and Sorcery (Brian Murphy), The Untold Story (Genevieve Cogman), The Library of the Dead (T.L. Huchu), and many more.

Aside from books and other literary materials, most fans will probably spend their holidays reviewing old H.P. Lovecraft books and their recent TV adaptations.

The past few years saw the rise of television series and films influenced by H.P. Lovecraft’s works. Recent tv shows such as Lovecraft Country and Stranger Things are subtly influenced by the great American novelist, while Cthulhu and Die Farbe (The Colour Out of Space) are based on his books. This holiday season, fans might want to take the time to view these series and films and explore the vast influence of Pulp fantasy fiction in other media. It’s been over 80 years since the creator of Cthulhu Mythos passed away, yet his legacy in weird science, fantasy, and horror fiction lives on.

Today, Howard Phillips Lovecraft’s influence and legacy can also be seen in music, religion, occultism, and video games. The Call of Cthulhu, Darkwood, Conarium, Bloodborne, Gray Dawn, and Stygian: The Reign of the Old Ones are just some of the famous video games heavily influenced by Lovecraft. And this Christmas, fans will also spend time playing these fantastic video games and the unique world he created.

Lovecraft fans can also expect cool and awesome things next year as new fantasy and horror fiction releases are just around the corner. For now, have a merry Lovecraftian Christmas to one and all!

You can purchase Joab Stieglitz’s The Old Man’s Request and other books through Amazon or by visiting his official author’s website.
