Debunking the Myth: Is ReadersMagnet a Scam?

by | Jun 15, 2023 | ReadersMagnet is NOT a Scam | 78 comments

Is ReadersMagnet a scam and not a legit company? Let’s look closer at the company whose existence has affected the lives of self-published and relatively unknown authors who only want to share their stories with the world.

For almost two years, authors Khristina Chess and Christopher Schmitz have spearheaded the campaign to tag the self-publishing company ReadersMagnet as a big scam. While the issues pointed out in their respective blogs may have been true, the company has long dealt with these issues properly. The constant updating of the blogs solely for the purpose of maligning ReadersMagnet and its effort to provide quality publishing and book marketing services is most distasteful.

Yet, the company has turned a blind eye to their attacks and instead focused on improving its services. After all, it exists not to satisfy these individuals’ need to trample a company’s reputation but to assist authors and their literature ventures.

Some of the published books by ReadersMagnet

A Legitimate Business

First, ReadersMagnet is a legitimate business that maintains an office at 10620 Treena Street, Suite 230, San Diego, California, USA. Its operations started in 2017, first as a book marketing services provider and later providing publishing services for authors all across the United States. Furthermore, ReadersMagnet is a business listed in various business listings online. Since July 2018, ReadersMagnet has been Better Business Bureau accredited. It holds a BBB rating of A, the second-highest rating on the BBB scale. It also has an active LinkedIn account. LinkedIn is a network of professionals and legitimate companies.

There’s no use questioning the company’s legitimacy, given it has continuously shown up at book fairs as an exhibitor. If it were deserving of the question revolving around its credibility, the company would have disappointed its clients during these events. On top of the ever-successful services ReadersMagnet offers its clients, these book events should be enough proof of its reliability, thrashing any acts to discredit its name.

Partnerships with Legitimate Institutions

Since its establishment, Readersmagnet has partnered with legitimate businesses to ensure that all their services yield the desired results. Publisher’s Weekly is one of ReadersMagnet’s oldest partners. Kirkus Review, Foreword Clarion, and BlueInk Book Review are third-party review companies with an active partnership with ReadersMagnet.

ReadersMagnet partners with the Combined Book Exhibit (CBE) for most of its events. Some of these national and international book fairs include the following:

  • American Library Association
  • Public Library Association
  • Bolognia Children’s Book Fair
  • BookExpo New Title Showcase
  • Sharjah International Book Fair
  • Beijing International Book Fair
  • Frankfurt International Book Fair
  • Guadalajara International Book Fair

Outside CBE, ReadersMagnet participated in other prestigious book events, such as the 2018 Miami Book Fair International and the 24th Los Angeles Times Festival of Books held early this year.

Partnerships with Reputable Individuals

One of ReadersMagnet’s prominent marketing services is the radio book interview. This service package allows our authors to be interviewed by reputable radio hosts in their respective programs.

Last year, the company began its partnership with veteran media personality and radio icon Ric Bratton. Through his radio show This Week in America with Ric Bratton, ReadersMagnet was able to showcase numerous authors who could market their brands across America’s airwaves.

This year is another exciting year for radio interviews. Recently, ReadersMagnet teamed up with award-winning National broadcast personality Kate Delaney. She is a host for the show America Tonight Radio. Kate Delaney has over 16,000 interviews in her 20 years of radio and television career. What makes Kate Delaney is that she is also an author. Delaney’s book Level the Playing Field is an Amazon best-seller.

ReadersMagnet’s very own Authors’ Lounge

Early this year, ReadersMagnet launched two microsites, readersmagnet.biz, and readersmagnet.club. ReadersMagnet.club features Author of the Week, Book of the Week, and Authors’ Lounge. The first of its kind from any self-publishing company, Authors’ Lounge became a community for authors to register their voices by allowing them to publish their articles, blogs, and other materials with the hope that it can reach more audiences online. To say that ReadersMagnet is a scam is to say that the Authors’ Lounge is also a scam. And that is considered an insult to all the authors registered on-site.

Testimonies and Positive Customer Reviews

Regarding the question, is ReadersMagnet a scam? Nothing is more important than the numerous customer reviews on relevant and reputable sites like Trustpilot and Reviews.io.

Suppose you want to see how ReadersMagnet is helping aspiring authors truly reach their publishing dreams and marketing goals. In that case, you need not look further than these sites that carry Readersmagnet’s legitimacy online. ReadersMagnet being a scam is a myth that Khristina Chess and the rest want to regurgitate to undermine ReadersMagnet’s achievements and principles the company holds dear.

ReadersMagnet continues to improve the quality of the services it offers. While the company is always open to valuable criticism from existing clients or visitors, it won’t tolerate accusations against its reputation.

I have published 2 books with Reader’s Magnet. I was leary at first, but they have proven to be dedicated to getting my name and my books out into the public eye. They have done everything that they have said that they would do for me. My first book was with one of the top publishing houses in the US and although the book sold 10,000 copies, I got pretty much nothing. By self-publishing with Reader’s Magnet, It has cost me several thousand dollars, but I am also getting much higher royalties than with Gryphon House publishing, and have already surpassed sales amounts with Reader’s Magnet than with Gryphon House. Check out what Reader’s Magnet has done for me in publicity. Nicki Geigert

I was a little leary of Reader’s Magnet at first but they have long since calmed any fears I had. Those who do malign them are individuals who think publishing a book makes you an instant millionaire. Publishing is the easy part. Sales come through hard work. Reader’s Magnet has never promised me sales. They have promised me only to publish my book and they kept that promise.

My first book was not published by ReadersMagnet and they offer no services after publishing. ReadersMagnet has collaborated with me on marketing and branding. I am grateful for the assistance of my two consultants. They provide valuable information and follow through on projects. Their fulfillment staff ensures products are of a high quality – customer service is at the core of this entity. They recently published my second book and the quality of the finished product and guidance of the staff has been a great experience. Currently I am in the Web Optimization Program and my webpage (which they designed) has been viewed internationally giving exposure to both my books and blogs. Super people, super company.

As an independent author with self-published books on Amazon, it’s sometimes difficult to advertise and find ways to reach out to readers. I see no apparent issues with Readers Magnet in terms of being reputable. I never published with them, never had any business dealings with them until one of their members who was a mutual Twitter follow reached out to me (Elizabeth Schultz), and asked if I would be interested in – free of charge – being featured in their Author’s Lounge. Author’s Lounge seems to be a great spotlight where writer’s can showcase themselves. Elizabeth has been fantastic to me, and very supportive. I have experienced nothing but professionalism, kindness, and courtesy thus far from Elizabeth and Readers Magnet.

One of the hardest things about self-publishing is advertising and getting your product out there for people to see.

I’ve been inundated with offers from self-styled editors and proofreaders to help market my book and all of them we unconvincing or wanted to charge me.

Readersmagnet, though, offered me the chance to write an article for their Author’s Lounge page to highlight my work and my author journey. They didn’t ask for money and were very polite and helpful so I’m very happy with that service.

Writing a novel is hard. Getting read by others is even harder.

I don’t know about the controversies that once surrounded ReadersMagnet (and I haven’t published with them), but they are legitimately concerned with helping writers reach new readers. I’ve appeared on their Author’s Lounge. Getting “air-time” anywhere as an independent author is ridiculously difficult, so I appreciate their interest in my writing and thank them for having me on their blog. They didn’t have to. They could have just focused on their own authors, but they didn’t. Good on them! (and thank you for having me)

However good the book, what Indie authors most need is exposure. So, I appreciated the invitation by Elizabeth Schultz to contribute an article for Authors’ Lounge, describing my writing journey. She’d read about my recently published memoir on Twitter.
The article appeared promptly, and I was able to link to it from my other social media accounts. Elizabeth was helpful and responsive throughout and at no point was I asked for payment or pressured to use any other services.

Promoting my book on the Authors Lounge was indeed, free. No one has attempted to solicit any services or pushed any schemes on me. Okay, so I am a newly self-published author, working on my platform and working to get my books into the world. I don’t trust easily. I was super excited about being approached by Jennifer Jackson about doing an article for ReadersMagnet’s Author Lounge. Yet, I checked all the review sites, google searched it, and saw that even though I was approached, there still wasn’t a guarantee that the article I read would make the cut.

Every business struggles to get off the ground. With scammers out there running rampant, high quality, genuinely good-hearted businesses like this one struggle to be taken seriously. I am honored to be featured on ReadersMagnet (which FYI for those speculating there was a monetary exchange, no they asked me out of interest for the book, as well as out of a genuine intention of helping authors be seen and heard).

I have been known to be cynical and jaded in my past, so I get all the arguments one could make. They just have no founding. ReadersMagnet is wonderful!

I was recently approached by Readers Magnet to write an article on my debut poetry anthology, Kissing Shadows: Caribbean Love Poems.

Honestly I was a bit weary as I had never heard about them before, but I must say everything flowed smoothly.

The contact person, Jennifer, was most professional in assisting where necessary.

Though I can not speak for their other services, I will give this experience a thumbs up as I greatly appreciated the open platform to showcase my book, which, by the way, is currently available on Amazon.

So what are you waiting on?

Go check out my published article in the Authors’ Lounge and see for yourself what I’m talking about.

I was contacted by Jennifer Jackson and I was offered the opportunity to publish an article about my Gratitude Journal on Author’s Lounge. I was glad and surprised that they reached out to me, the process was very smooth and Jennifer was very patient and supportive. I was never asked for money in return or scammed in any way or form. It’s been a privilege and a pleasure to be invited to write this article. Thank you, Jennifer, for your kindness and for approaching me. And thank you Readers Magnet for all the support you give to the new authors.

Jennifer Jackson message me on Twitter offering me the opportunity to write an article about my book, The Letters Of A Stranger, for the ReadersMagnet website under the Author’s Lounge at no charge. Jennifer walked me through the process and was always there for me if I had any questions. This gave my book the chance to reach more readers, which I am truly thankful for. I would recommend any author to get in touch with Jennifer Jackson.

I wonder why people would think ReadersMagnet is a scam when they’ve provided great service to self-publishing authors.
