The Other Side of Love by Attilio Guardo

The Other Side of Love by Attilio Guardo is a 2019 young adult romantic drama. The book is by far Guardo’s most serious work. The story follows a young man named Conrad Arlington Hill. When Conrad’s girlfriend Abigail broke up with him, he devised a plan to break Abigail’s heart using his close friend Ed. However, things turn south with Ed and Abigail fell in love with each other. Conrad then goes on a hate-fueled mission to get even with them, resulting in Ed leaving Abigail. The trauma also left Abigail in serious depression, and has to stay in a mental institution for two months. What follows next is a series of downward spiral events and decisions for Conrad, hurting people along the way. One day, his schemes finally caught up with him and left him guilty for everything he has done. With the help of a new friend, Conrad seeks redemption and forgiveness.

“He placed his hands behind his head and closed his eyes, exerting his mental capacity relentlessly, pursuing, scheming a way to use Penny as a victim of revenge. She would be such a perfect candidate, so unsuspecting and innocent. Yes, he would pursue her and give her priority over Erica Hollis. It would be a crime to let Penny go unscathed. He would never be able to find such an excellent candidate like her again. He would work on the two of them simultaneously. There was no doubt he could handle his revised plan. The very thought energized his body. He opened his eyes and smiled. He would call Penny and apologize for his harsh treatment of her and insist on paying his own damage and take her to dinner. He would fatten her up with flattery and affection until she placed her heart in his hands, and then he would squeeze the life out of it. The thought made him grin, but in the end, the homely, little bitch would cry.” (excerpt from the book)
